As the header suggests but this may not endorse your favourite actual programme, so besides the 5 you think stand out in your collection for whatever reasons, if there is an all time favourite besides the 5 please can you advise[conversely if your favourite is in the 5 tell everyone!].

However for once i am not going to go first[still thinking about which ones to choose]!

It will be good to see a lot of covers with some interesting design/artwork from as old as possible.

Over to you

My favourite 5 designs in no particular order but what stand out as 'classics' for me are.

And the one that means the most to me is my first ever match

The first three I regard as the golden age of Hull City football covers.

The fourth is the nadir. designed by the nephew or some close relative of the soon to be disgraced owners. It is wrong in every way

The last one is special as it is our only (so far) Cup final but more than that I discovered a couple of weeks later that my friend features on the cover if you look closely!

Oops - but here it is. It's just a shame that you can't see his tiger customised mobility scooter in all its glory!

Gone for a spread of programmes over the ages.

The programme covers for United, seasons 1903-4 and 1904-5.
Classical type set and illustration.

Since the early 1900s our programme design didn't change a great deal then suddenly in 1936-7 we came up with this vibrant colour offering. Lovely.

Saw this a few years ago in an antique shop in Mablethorpe (Lincolnshire coast), so I bought it for the little un's collection. Just love the artwork. Alford United 1962-3

Simplistic to the extreme. First programme I remember the old man giving me. 1971-2 United v Spurs

Finally, don't suppose too many modern day programmes will make the gallery and with good reason probably. Just a great photo, don't see too many from that angle. Just captured the moment. United v Oldham 2012-3

Some brilliant covers already, especially the Hull ones and Sheff Utd 36-7.

Here's my two-penneth, favourites for varying reasons:

First, Palace 50-51 - very stylish (even if the style was perhaps a little outdated). Palace have had some lovely covers over the years.

Next, West Ham 79-80 - Bold, simple and attractive. Between the mid-60's to early eighties everything about the West Ham prog was just about perfect to my eyes.

Wembley generic mid-50's to early 60's - Maybe not a classic, but (very) consistent in style. I like it because, when rooting through stuff at auction houses, boot sales etc, one glimpse of a cover like this and you know there's something worth investigating.

Luton 74-5 - Again, bold, simple, great colours. The 70's often get looked down upon in collecting circles because the programmes are generally not worth much, but in many ways - including design - it was a golden era for programmes.

Norwich 55-6 - This I think is simply gorgeous.

My all-time favourite though has to be the generic Cowes cover, which remained basically unchanged between 1957 and 1979. Nicely designed and, obviously, very personal to me. The 'running man' figure did make a comeback for a couple of seasons in the 2000's, but we turned him around, so this time he was running towards goal Smile

Probably my favourite pre war Blackpool cover (31/2 season) with no apologies for having shown this before on at least one occasion.

And another favourite from the following season.

And the superb 'montage' style programme from 38/9 season.

Only 3 there but here are a couple of earlier threads on a similar theme.

That's a tough question but....

a) I love anything "art deco"....

b) Demonic....

c) I'm an unreconstructed hippy - so of course, I love this one...

d) A touch of class....

e) I love this cover - the combination of the font, the spontaneity - and a great ground photo to top it all off.

That was a struggle! I had to discard 50+ covers that are just as good Smile

I couldn't drill it down to just five, so gave up and went for the style of my favourite Tottenham design.
Mid seventies and just pure simplicity.
Everything you need in a programme in my opinion.

Also agree with yachtsmun about West Ham's design - Perfect.

3 fabulous covers-well done Blackpool FC and all those years ago!
Amazing while they made the effort and most other clubs produced boring covers in that period[like MU by comparison].
The use of colour makes the programme look amazing NOW never mind then!

Agreed! Smile

Brentford's were unimaginative, that's for sure, in the 1930's...... even into the 1940's and 1950's too!

So many Clubs produced great looking covers. They're good to see.

I had a Blackpool v Brentford 1938 (i think it was) as the one shown, sadly, about 20 years ago now I sold all my pre war aways. Crying or Very sad

I still think about it now. Sad

Still, they got me out of a big hole and also bought me a car! Driving

Just a nice design that I really like

Felt tips ahoy!

It opened up the centre of the cover like a pair of saloon doors!!! (Crystal Palace v Dallas Tornadoes)

Considering it was my original post several months ago, i note that i have not put anything down, so here are the ones:

i found it very difficult indeed, so a while ago i put together some of my favorite artwork for programmes-menus-tickets or anything else.

Hope you agree with me that there is certainly some creative artwork amongst this lot.

okok my top 2 programme covers are Grimsby Town v MU 1946-7 it is a very clever piece of work trawling in the other clubs into the Mariners nets! Brilliant. But for it's vibrant cover of the 1940's it has to be the Linfield v Man U 1948 friendly, next it is Hull City v Mu 1948-9[already been shown] and i am thinking about the other 2 probably this one not in that lot https://flic.kr/p/8WB3NG and finally https://flic.kr/p/4UWiPD
