87 years ago (1928/9 season) and a Central League fixture between Sheffield Wednesday reserves and Blackpool reserves.

The programme is a 4 page issue and topically with reference to another thread currently running shows the 2 teams numbered 1-22.

70 years ago.

Whoever penned in the details was quite right.

4 page programme includes a "congratulations" to Elijah Wood who was still on the payroll after 57 years with the club.

That means he joined them in 1888 when the club were only 3 years old. That was also the year of Jack the Ripper so he quite probably recalled all that, too.

20th January 1979

Football League, Division II

Att: 21,142

Crystal Palace 0, Millwall 0

No goals so time to pay a fitting tribute to Palace keeper John Burridge, who in that season:-

played all 50 league and cup games;
conceded 31 goals in all competitions (0.62 per game);
condeded 24 goals in 42 league games (0.57 per game);
kept 24 clean sheets (21 in the league).

Inter Cities Fairs Cup 3rd round 1st leg.
Manchester United 1 Everton 1
Att: 50,000

1978/79 season.
1st Division.

Manchester City 2 Chelsea 3

This was the return of Malcolm Allison taking over the first team from Tony Book. A decision that would affect City for many years to come!

1968 and a 3-1 home defeat by Cowdenbeath.

Usual four page typed and duplicated programme, this with a different cover design.

There were at least four different hand drawn covers produced that season although I am still searching for six home issues from 1967/68 season so there may be others I'm not aware of.

48 years ago (1967/8 season) and a Central League fixture between West Bromwich Albion reserves and Blackpool reserves.

The programme is a 4 page issue with fixtures, tables, player appearances and goalscorers, for both 1st team and reserves.

20 years ago

Llansannan v Gwalchmai

Wikipedia states that 67% of the village's population speak Welsh so it's perhaps understandable that the front cover is in two languages.
Ditto inside the programme, too.

22/01/2000 - Cowes 1 - 0 Tilbury (F.A. Vase 4th round)

In amongst a crowd of around 400 were 80-or-so proper nasty pieces of work from Tilbury ("not regulars at our matches" according to a visiting official), most of whom situated themselves on the old terrace at Westwood. The match was fiery enough, but the atmosphere off the pitch was pretty poisonous and as the first half ended there was a massive brawl in front of the main stand involving players, officials and supporters from both clubs - proper serious disorder. Half-time lasted over 30 minutes, during which time around 15 police (including a dog unit) turned up and coralled the visitors round the other side of the pitch. The second half was a bit more tame, but things turned raucous in the 87th minute when Jamie O'Rourke netted the winner for Cowes (prompting a roar that was heard over a mile away). We probably wouldn't have gone quite so mad had the visitors still been amongst us, mind.

67 years ago (1948/9 season) and a 1st Division fixture between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Blackpool.

The programme is a 12 page issue with plenty of reading, tables, a 1st Division chart and fixtures including the Birmingham Combination and Birmingham League.

Wolves won 2-1 with goals from Pye and Dunn. Blackpool’s goal came from Shimwell and the crowd was a healthy 54,088.

Same as the Derby v Man Utd....

50 years ago - 22nd January 1966

Leeds United 6 Bury 0

30, 384 there to see a Lorimer hat-trick plus goals from Reaney, Greenhoff & Giles

Bury had a few youngsters in their team such as 19yo Colin Bell, 17yo Alec Lindsay and 20yo Edmund Peter Skirving Colquhoun - Quite a name as well as a crap hand at Scrabble

Only just managed to make the 22nd cut-off at midnight by 5 minutes otherwise I would've had to do a 'Sky' and change the game date, see separate thread!

Football League, South

Att: 4,365

Crystal Palace 1 (E.Wright), Portsmouth 2

I'm afraid I don't even know scorer Wright's first name, let alone have a photo of him. Played 5 games, scored 2 goals. That's it.
