Good day good people.

For research purposes, I'm trying to find out any info on the Northern Intermediate League & Central League from 1952 to around 61.

I'm writing a novel about a young Leeds player who joined in 1952 and played lots of matches for the juniors, then the reserves and finally the first team. I'm trying to find out virtually any info there is for those days. Also trying to determine whether or not the Leeds programmes of those years ever published match reports or summaries, league tables and results.

Many thanks in anticipation of any help. And all credit officially given too Very Happy[/u]

The A team played in the Yorkshire League at the time. Some info here including tables

(I do like the fact that the league was won in the 20s by the very poetically named Methley Perserverance)

Have got a full set (almost complete) of Yorkshire League tables going back to 1920/21.

I got them years ago - some are typed out, some hand-written, some easier to read than others.

Email me on [email protected] and I can hopefully help you out

Andy

After scanning these sheets in (there are 14 of them) they are too large to attach to emails, so have uploaded them to my Flickr site so anyone wanting to view them can do so by clicking on the link below:-

Thank you very much, Barnsley C, I will be in touch. Possibly a daft question - these are under 18s teams? The main reason for asking is that I know the Leeds juniors played and did well in the FA Youth Cup around 52 53.

I know the Yorkshire and Central Leagues had no age restrictions.
I believe the Midland Intermediate League was formed in 1960 for under 18 players, so maybe the Northern Intermediate League was run along the same lines.
The F.A Youth Cup is for Under 19's only.

...and of course relevant Leeds Utd results and league tables can be gleaned off this Chesterfield website which has been covered on another thread recently.

Just seen on Wikipedia the following comment about Jack Charlton, which confuses me again (not difficult Razz )

Born 1935, Jack Charlton played for Leeds United's youth team in the Northern Intermediate League and then for the third team in the Yorkshire League; playing in the physically demanding Yorkshire League at the age of 16 impressed the club's management, and he was soon promoted to the reserve team.

Does anyone know of any Northern Intermediate League data from back then, or is Wiki wrong?

The two links below show that the Northern Intermediate League & League Cup were alive & kicking during the 49/50 & 50/51 seasons so I would assume that wiki is correct. I'm almost certain that I've got some info (somewhere) which showed the NIL was in place circa 47/8. If I find it I'll confirm.

This Stockport website is another good one to glean some info from for all those stattos out there.
