Been waiting for your first contribution of 2016, oly seems like yesterday that game was played. We are all showing our age and the years are passing very quickly, too quickly for my liking!

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all the forum members & team.

1st Jan 1952 Pompey away to Man city, 1-0 win. Mundy the goalscorer

Att.....just under 50,000

Standard programme, costing 2d, still cheaper than pompey's at 3d.

A couple of interesting adverts, one on the front page for 'Stone-Dri'..

Another inside...enjoy beer bottled by 'Slack & Cox'.....(wonder if they are

still in business ?? ) & the back page Ad by British Rail for an evening Excursion to Blackpool 5/-

Not a bad result for pompey Reserves !!!!

67 years ago (1948/9 season) and a 1st Division fixture between Aston Villa and Blackpool.

An 8 page programme was issued crammed with reading, match reports and fixtures. There were 2 pages of adverts but no league tables.

Blackpool won 5-2 with goals from Munro, Mortensen, Kelly, Rickett and Matthews.

The attendance was just short of 50,000.

Chelsea v Brentford 1 January 1944

3-0 to the Bees, McKennan 2 and Hunt the scorers, in front of an estimated 12,000 at The Bridge.

New Years Day 1966, 50 years ago today

The now defunct Bexley United v Hinckley Athletic at Welling Ground

Crystal Palace due to face Bexley Colts the following Saturday - Do you have a copy of that programme Pete? Unfortunately I don't

A four page programme, liking the Kingfisher on the team line up page and the helpful explanation of the offside rule!

All four pages are on my Twitter page

67 years ago today.

Sheffield United 3 Derby 1
att: 41,273

6 page gatefold programme. Razor blade adverts on front and back. Nice, picturesque ad for Hope and Anchor Breweries' "Jubilee Stout" on the inside. Does anyone drink stout these days?

Half-time entertainment from the Sheffield Recreation Prize Band who are "open for engagements of all occasions".

1968 and a 1-1 draw against Alloa Athletic. Stenhousemuir finished 19th (out of 19), Alloa Athletic 17th. St. Mirren and Arbroath were promoted.

Simplistically stencilled and typed four page duplicated programme.

Sorry to distract from the great thread guys, but that Stenhousemuir must be the most homemade programme ever!!

Must be a nightmare trying to filling missing gaps in collections asI'd imagine 99% of those efforts being binned after the game!

Amazing some have survived

TBH more survived than I expected - it's just trying to find those very elusive remaining few I'm after that's the problem! There are only 3 people who I know that collect the club's programmes plus, obviously, those collectors of the opponents.

Anyway, one year on and a pre-printed outer cover had been produced with a double sided typed and duplicated insert for the visit of Queen of the South. The presentation still left a lot to be desired but it has to be remembered that, at this time, many Scottish clubs didn't issue a programme at all.

After losing this match 4-3, Stenhousemuir went on to finish 19th (of 19), the Dumfries side came 5th, and Motherwell and Ayr United were promoted.
