Couple of testimonial games involving the Rams.
The Ashton Gate game is from 1973.

1954/5 season and a 4 page programme between Sheffield United reserves and Blackpool reserves.

Jimmy Armfield was in the Blackpool side and Jock Dodds, who created many scoring records whilst at Blackpool, was at number 9 for the Blades.

Blackpool won 2-1.

My guess is that whoever originally owned this programme wasn't sure which team was which.

Everton actually won this game 2-1.

79 years ago (1936/7 season) and a 2nd Division fixture between Plymouth Argyle and Blackpool.

Blackpool won promotion this season and before this game were lying third in the table with Plymouth in second place.

Blackpool won 3-1 with goals from Hill and two for Watmough.

A good 28 page programme was issued with lots of adverts but also plenty of written content.

Rotherham 5 Derby 2 (att: 14,208)

8 page programme is only 2d but barely nothing to read inside other than the usual fixture lists, a "sports quiz" and ads galore.. No editorial content at all.

6th December 1952

FA Cup, 2nd Round

Att: 7,144

Finchley 3 Crystal Palace 1 - match abandoned after 61 minutes due to fog

Programme issued for original match and then re-used for re-arranged match 4 days later - more to be revealed on 10th Dec

"Finchley goalie R. Barham goes high up in the air to make a save in his team's match with Crystal Palace, as fog thickens on the field. The fog enveloping a great part of London finally won its match with soccer, and caused the postponement of the Arsenal-Preston match and other tilts". Palace player thought to be Johnny Rainford.

4 page issue for this "Floodlit Football Match"

The opposition side as per the programme was:

Swift; Hardwick, Beattie; Shankly, Carey, Ward; Crooks, Mannion, Broome, Doherty, Mitten.

I don't have a record of the result or the attendance but I'd expect that stellar line-up, including a couple of Baseball ground legends, would have been quite an attraction?

7th December 1963

FA Cup, 2nd round

Att: 10,925

Yeovil Town 3 Crystal Palace 1 (Wood)

Brian Wood

Warm memories of this match despite the shocking result (although not really a "shock" at the Huish!). I was 7 and used to watch my brother's (who was then 20) team play when Palace were away. I'd stand behind their keeper's goal listening to his radio which he'd prop up against the goal post. He was also a Palace fan, name of Les. When the scores came through on Sports' Report, Palace were trailing and it's fair to say that Les broadened my vocabulary by several new words on that December afternoon.
