It's with a heavy heart I inform you of the sad passing of one of football's unsung heroes, a bloke who single-handedly maintained a wonderful database covering every league club in England, Wales and Scotland.

I never spoke to nor met Neil Brown but I owe him so much in helping me to identify players and trace their careers, totally invaluable to me as I try to log all my photos with missing details.

In case you don't know him or his website. here's the link and at the top of the home page there's a message from his widow, Pam. I only saw this today for the first time, I usually jump straight to the data pages.

A wonderful man and a fantastic database that will gradually get further & further out of date now. It would be a great tribute to him if someone came in and rescued it. But what a job that would be!

Sad news and a proper "unsung hero" as you say Pete.

RIP Neil.

Sad news. Definitely added to my knowledge and was a helpful source for research. RIP

I didn't know about this website until this post.
Just had a look - wow! What a wealth of knowledge.

RIP Neil

I've been in touch with Neil's widow, Pam, and she says someone in London has suggested taking over the website and maintaining it under the same name. I've no idea who that is but good luck to him.

Also, if anyone would like to make a donation in Neil's memory, there are 2 charities which they are involved with - Meningitis Now and the British Heart Foundation. With Mancitymark on here and his boy fresh in my mind, I made a modest donation to Meningitis Now.
