Have a number of Hednesford Town issues. Let me know if you are interested and I will dig them out.

Never seen the programmes but going quite far back our archives say that Macclesfield played in the 1935/36 and 1937/38 season. Don't think we featured in any other seasons though i'm afraid.

1935/36

Flint v Macc - (3rd round) - 27/11/1935
Rhyl v Macc - (4th round)

1937/38

Macc v Bangor C - (3rd Round) - 17/11/1937
Shrewsbury T v Macc - (4th Round) - 09/12/1937

The really quite brilliant Welsh Football Data Archive is yer only man:

http://wfda.co.uk/welsh_cup_year_index.php

I see Northwich Victoria were involved in the 1877-78 competition. I think there were periods in the past when the cup was reserved for Welsh clubs only, and it's Welsh clubs only since 1996.

a Google advanced search suggests you're right, just the two appearances for Macclesfield on the website

Hi All,

Nice post andrewesq Smile

I'm a Swansea fan but have to admit i'm not a fan of the Welsh FA nor the later day Welsh cup even though the old one got us into europe way back. In my opinion the Welsh clubs should have accepted the 1992 proposal to play in the English/Welsh Leagues where Welsh clubs have history and heritage. We could have still kept a domestic cup competition without diminishing it's heritage or value. Anyway moan over Very Happy

I have a few of clubs versus the Swans - i'll try and dig them out. not the one below though i'd like some.

Here are some English teams you may be interested in:

Shrewsbury Town, Chester City, Wellington Town, Crewe Alexandra, Oswestry United, Hereford United, Tranmere Rovers, Oswestry White Stars, Bristol City and South Liverpool - all of whom won the cup.

Some that didn't win it but took part:

Kidderminster Harriers, Northwich Victoria, Westminster Rovers, Whitchurch (i believe were English), Hednesford Town, Stourbridge, Shrewsbury Engineers, Hartford St Johns, Shrewsbury Castle Blues, Plymouth Hope, Crewe Britania, Nantwich, Chester St Oswalds, Crewe Athletic, Wellington St George, Bradley Rangers F.C., Bridgnorth Town F.C., Brierley Hill Alliance F.C., Stroud, Cheltenham Town, Overton St Mary's, Wrockwardine Wood, Ellesmere, Wem White Stars, Ironbridge, All Saints Salop, Market Drayton.

Below are some I am unsure if they are Welsh or English, if anyone can advise i'd be very keen to update my own lists.

Black Park
Hope Wanderers
Over Wanderers
Davenham

And i'm sure there are lots more that i've missed.

Hope this helps.

Smile

The last four are all Welsh as was Ferndale Athletic.

Thanks corneli_blue,

How come Ferndale Athletic played in the Wiltshire Football League? Is that the same team or another with same name? - so many teams on the border in confused with origins Confused

Here's some pics:

One season wonders - Stafford Rangers in 1981-82.
1st Rd - Kidderminster Harriers (H) won 2-1
2nd Rd - Merthyr Tydfil (H) won 1-0
3rd Rd - Swansea City (H) lost 0-4
Full programmes produced for each game.

RE: Point of Ayr, Greenfield, Shotton Westminster, Mostyn
All four are on the North wales Coast between Connah's Quay and Prestatyn.
Point, Greenfield and Mostyn are still plying their trade but I think Westminster are now a kids/youth team.
Ian Garland's 1993 book A History of the Welsh Cup is a mine of information and a superb read. Get a copy if you can!
Always looking for obscure and unusual WC programmes - drop me a PM if you have something you think might interest me please.

Hope is in North Wales and Davenham is in Cheshire, quite near Northwich.

Sounds like a plan SeasideMark - will have to look out for this

Indeed if anyone has any Tranmere Welsh Cup programmes i would be interested, especially as Tranmere were runners up to the Welsh team of Bristol City in 33/34 and then went on to lift the trophy the following year beating a nearly Welsh team of Chester City !

would be interesting to see if any programmes were produced at all during this era and if they were viewed as secondary fixtures

During my tour of the 92, I saw that Hereford were playing Rhos Aelwyd in the Welsh Cup whilst I was working on a job in Leominster. Absolute pea souper from memory and just a 4 page programme produced.

Still, it knocked another ground off my list!
