Is it possible someone at the F A primed the computer to come up with Stoke v Liverpool on the first day of the new season?

We have got Plymouth, Leyton Orient, Northampton and Luton all away midweek.

In return we only have 2 midweek home games v Luton and Orient.

Crazy but who cares about the fans

That does seem rather unfair for those who like to travel to all games because I thought the FL were trying to limit long midweek fixtures to just one per club per season.

I suppose though it is difficult to do this for some clubs such as Carlisle or Plymouth because of their geographical position.

Generally, one of the reasons we see some apparently ill conceived midweek fixtures, is that the clubs themselves have asked for priority to be given to local matches on Saturdays to allow more people to attend the bigger games over the weekend rather than having these midweek.

That then relegates some of the longer trips to midweek where crowds are not expected to be as big.

Years ago Carlisle always requested that their long distance fixtures were midweek. The team could travel down during the day of the game, arrive in time for a quick pre-match meal, play the match and get back on the coach home. No need for hotels.

Nowadays they travel to places like Plymouth the day before; stop for a training session somewhere and then stay in a hotel the night before the match.

From a fans point of view a trip from Carlisle to Plymouth during the summer holidays is far from ideal in any event as we hit holiday traffic through the Lake District; then congestion around Birmingham; before sitting in endless traffic jams down the M5.

Copa America final is the July 5th, league season starts on 8th August, they've hardly just arrived back. Shouldn't be much different a break from the Euro Finals next year.
