Aberdeen 1-0 Raith Rovers. Nothing like a glamour Scottish Cup tie to excite a young supporter.

My Dad took me to the first match after Munich in 1958 when i was 7-not that i had a clue what was going on, i think my Mother was going out so he either took me or didnt go! not much of a contest then eh Dad!
https://flic.kr/p/6dWTDT

and the first time i went to a game on my own was 4 years later for the last home match of the season v Sheffield United 1961-2

I have been back a few times since then Laughing

very good thread indeed Wullie!

Wave

Many years ago i asked my Father when he first went to see United and it was in the 1920's, i asked him why he chose United and not City as they were the better side and he told me that he would cycle to Hyde Road but the walls were too high and had glass bottles on the top to keep out kids like me but at United he and all his pals knew where there was a wonky bit of fencing at the Stretford end and they got in for nowt!-had he been able to gain access when he was 5 or 6 to City then it would have perhaps been manchestercityman1 perhaps Laughing

The Watney Cup Final in 1972 was my 1st Rovers game.
I had been to a few games over the dark side of Bristol before this but those games have been wiped from my memory thank heavens.
My sisters boyfriend took me. It was hot, the ground was full and we won the cup. I was hooked for life.

They split up a couple of years later but I still see him a games.
Have thanked him in the past for dragging me away from the dark side. Mind you, if I'd seen him on the last day of last season I may have punched him. All is good again after this season though.

Portsmouth v Sunderland 14th November 1970
Pompey won 2-1
The headline in that nights 'Football Mail' was 'Trebs, Hiron give 'em the old 1-2'.
I was 12 years old, and travelled over with a friend of mine who was a year older than me, and had been before.
We were living in Ventnor, on the Isle of Wight, and a trip to Fratton Park involved a bus, train, boat, and another bus.

Mine was Man U v Chester, FA Cup, 1964/5. Dad (RIP) took me, I was five years old. I remember very little other than it was cold and very noisy! The programme and both our tickets are framed and on the wall of our spare room. I didn't go to see Chester again till September 1970 when they beat Exeter 3-1 and I've been a lifelong Blue ever since though I don't go so much these days - but theirs is still the first result I look for every time.

PNE v Doncaster 1971

4-0 to the ' Nobbers '

Thought it was great - all i can remember is standing on the Kop and thinking there was bags of space .

Think the attendance was 14,000 so not too bad for a 3rd Division game .
