There's about 3 BUFC homes from the 40's and 50's that could possibly get close to that valuation on a very good day. Auckinlechian's got one, the Fred Tunstall testimonial v Sheff Utd, the others are 2 late 40's Mather Cup games v Leeds Utd which are highly desirable.
I've picked up 40's issues for around a fiver this year so where he's got that valuation from is beyond me. |

The chancer in question is Andrew Pinfield from Halifax. |

My knowledge of both Boston and Halifax programmes is limited to say the least, however, this guy has been on eBay for a while and has had some quality items through the years.
He also seems to regularly sell a lot of 'rare' Halifax items and as he comes from Halifax is likely to be a Halifax specialist??
Strange Andy's valuation is a lot less than his, from previous experience and knowledge I would not normally think this guy is a 'rip off' merchant, sometimes a little expensive but nothing more. Perhaps he has just completely mis-judged this one?? _________________ Nuts and Bolts Web Design

I think you're spot on with your evaluation there, KCS. |

I've bought a few Burnley reserve items off him on eBay, never had any problems except he doesn't leave feedback. |

KCS is right, having looked at the guys history he seems a genuine dealer who's just got this one way out.
Having bought and sold literally hundreds of BUFC home and aways from the 40's and 50's over the years I'm confident in my valuation. |

There are a few Halifax collectors about who would push the price up, personally i could see it reaching £30-£40, i have over 4700 Halifax programmes but not the one on ebay so it must be quite rare,
If it was at Halifax it would be go for close to the money he is asking, i have paid over £100 for many Halifax homes from the 1940's & 50's but the aways are always cheaper, |

To be fair though, given a ebay 10% discount voucher on a purchase of £70, it could be mine for a bargain £112.50
To hell with it, it's only £100 over priced I might just go for it
Anyone fancy sending him an email inviting him to join the forum ? |

The Gainsborough one is the rarest of that lot, on a good day he MIGHT get 40 quid for it........the Grimsby one possibly 20 and Wizzy 25 if the right people wanted it. |

IMO none of them are worth more than £15, even Peterborough v Halifax only sells for £20 to £25 from 50-51 and 51-52, the same old scenario anything is only worth what you can sell it for.
The last Grantham programme I bought was a 37/8 at home to Bradford City res, cost......£70.

Supply and Demand simply suggests there aren't that many people out there madly keen to buy it.. Now if it were Man Utd (say) reserves (say) playing some lower league team (say pre-season) from way way back then perhaps there might be a bit more interest..
You can't price a programme just on the age of it. |

Halifax, like a good number of provincial clubs, command greater prices for certain programmes than the likes of United. How many Halifax 45-6 and 46-7 homes do you ever see, on ebay or dealers lists? Virtually none. You often see United issues, and yes they do command premium prices, but not what they did 3 or 4 years ago. Some collectors of United programmes, and those of whom they played have the benefit of maybe waiting for a cheaper programme if the current one is going too high. You don't have that with Halifax, Hartlepool, Rochdale, etc - hence you are far more likely to get higher prices with a number of people chasing the same, very rare, programme.
I wouldn't have thought that the reserve programmes are worth anything like the price they're being offered for, but I don't have a collective collector base in Halifax which this guy does. If he's seen a huge rise being paid for Halifax reserves aways in the recent past from his collector base then if he can get those kind of prices, best of luck to him.
He normally has his rarer items for sale at really low starting prices, witht he wording, "no minimum set as I know these programmes are rare and will find their true price" or something similar. He's probably hit on something of a winner here - maybe not at £125, but there has to be a market for them in the first place, otherwise, why risk high insertion prices when he doesn't normally do so?
Lastly, if folk don't agree with the prices, DON'T BUY THEM! Don't get upset..... |

I wasnt aware that anyone was getting upset.
Regarding Halifax reserves from that era, did Halifax print for home reserve games? |

I have only ever seen a couple of single sheet home reserves from 1950-51 season, i've not seen any pre-1950 or any from later dates in the 50's
to give you an idea of how rare Halifax homes can be from the mid 40's to early 50's here's a few examples that have sold on ebay over the last few years:
Halifax v Manchester United 1944/45 - £640
Halifax v Workington 1951/52 - £414
Halifax v Waterford 1950/51 (F.O.B) - £345
Halifax v New Brighton 1946/47 - £175
Halifax X1 v Wolves X1 1948 Hx & District FA jubilee match - £350
Ashton v Halifax 1952/53 FAC2R - £230
New Brighton v Halifax 1947/48 - £232

Those are all notable games against collectable clubs.
Whats a Halifax v Rochdale or v Oldham or v Lincoln go for? |
