RIP former Republic of Ireland International Ray Treacy who played for Shamrock Rovers, Drogheda, west Brom, Preston, Swindon and Charlton.

He managed Shamrock rovers to the title in 1994. He ran a travel agency for many years bringing fans to away games.

He scored 5 times in 42 appearances for Ireland. He was the last League of Ireland player to score for his country. He also scored the equaliser in a famous 2-1 win in Prague in 1967.

Ray was only 68.

Thanks for the post, Gary. Obviously the best Irish and Northern Irish players will play across the water. That was true in Ray Treacy's day and is especially the case now. But those players who either started their careers in the Irish League or League of Ireland, or who return to either play or manage in their home league, are the true heroes of Irish football, and are thankfully recognised as such within our football communities.

RIP Ray

Played and scored in my first visit to The Hawthorns in October 1976 when we beat Utd 4-0.

Excellent player who I first saw playing for Charlton at Palace in FA Cup replay, Jan 1969 - he scored both goals for the Addicks in a 0-2 victory for them. I have 4 photos of Palace defending in this game but he's not in any of them. Dammit.

RIP Ray.
