I am currently valueing my collection and would welcome opinions on what you think a couple are/might be worth
I recently acquired some early war programmes, which are hard to both find and value so your opinions would be appreciated
the first one is Manchester United v Blackburn Rovers in the war cup played on 11/5/1940

the second item is a war time friendly between Manchester United and Sheffield United played on 16/12/1939

After a very quick search at sold items on eBay I saw a 38/9 went for £300 and a 44/5 for £120 - quite a few 44/5 and 45/6 homes sold recently.

But if Manchester United items are like Leeds items then the 2 seasons are mentioned are clearly harder than the ones mentioned above. Coupled with you only just getting them so would assume they are up there with hens teeth.

I really haven't a clue but on the basis you've only just got them and with the condition not being 'mint' (I am sure if they were easier to find you would have them in better condition) I would say £400+ each... (Not sure about asking the wife territory but hiding it from the wife territory).

Keep them coming Ray. Smile

One my only war-time issues.
Picked this up at a local auction about 6 years ago.
4 pages and No. 3792.

very interesting the numbering

With paper so scarce i personally cannot believe they would have produced at least 3792 programmes for that one game
So is this a sequence totalling up the season
You will probably never find out unless somebody has a Leigh programme from earlier which gives a clue to the numbering

Your opinion is as good as anybody's on this subject and appreciated
The condition of a couple of those i have from 1939/40 do indeed leave a lot to be desired but i was just happy to get them

I have seen such limited programmes from this season available
The most common is the Manchester City v Manchester United games.
They are still very very hard
I have never seen a 1939/40 Manchester United home programme offered at auction so to get 8 at once was special to me,even considering the condition of some of them

If you want to see what i have for this 1939/40 season help yourself
https://www.flickr.com/photos/63580000@N04/sets/72157628452724501/

Feel free to take scans

Now 1940/41 season is even harder
I only have notes of 3 Manchester United homes existing.
They are v Liverpool(23/11/1940), Blackpool(5/4/1941) and Preston(19/10/1940)
I have notes of the Blackpool one selling twice. It was probably the same programme changing hands and the Preston one selling 4 times.Again probably the same programme

The history of the Manchester United v Preston North End pricing is interesting
It sold in 200 for £340 plus commission
Sports programmes offered it for o/o £400 in 2003
Sportingold sold it in 2013 for £650 plus commission
Sportingold sold last month for £1300 plus commission

Thus proving that,in my opinion, that the cream rises

Raymond, No you've had the Sheffield United one for at least three years.

Are you one of those, two bob fish and chip merchants just looking for a valuation before buggering off. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Where there are 3 there is always 4-in fact there are others for sure in 1940-1941 i would wager.
