In light of recent posts that have had to be deleted something is going to have to change.

Maybe some kind of warning. (yellow card)
before a ban (red card)

The ban could be either a week or a month. Please let me know what you think.

If that doesn't work then the bans can get longer until it becomes permanent.

Please tell me what you think everyone.

IMO would need strong, consistent moderation - best of luck with that if it is just you Jamie?

At the risk of sounding naive, we all come on here as people interested in the same hobby. Some postings are of more interest and relevance than others. As in any hobby-based forum.

What we - and when I say "we", I mean those of us who come on here with the best of intentions, either to participate actively or just read - don't need is to find some loudmouth pigeonholing us all according to his parameters. Time after time after time. Ad infinitum.

Like any bore standing at the bar, it gets monotonous.

You know who I mean - and its a question of common courtesy.

Yellow card, red card your shout.

But if something's not done about it, you'll find a lot of people going the way of John Holroyd. And you'll have no forum left worth speaking of.
And that, as our hobby struggles to survive, would be a bloody shame.

And if the individual in question objects to what I'm writing, then tough. I'm sure his skin is thick enough.

That same person has the capability to bring a wealth of knowledge to this site - but, for reasons best known to himself, chooses to insult and rant instead. To the detriment of himself, if only he realised.

That's his choice - but it's your choice to listen to the rest of us and deem it unacceptable.

Everyone forum has it's bully but this one's just plain embarrassing and has given the site a bad name - Any new comers young or old who potentially want to join or post would be instantly put off doing so and I would imagine be put off collecting in general.

Skip the cards - Why give yourself more work to do - I've always found if you tackle a bully head on then they usually crumble and disappear back under there rock.

Just get rid as gone on far to long Wave

I agree with 'mancitymark'........straight red......

We all know who they are

If you give a yellow, they would be OK for a few weeks then back to normal.

I've not been on here that long, but it is quite clear that certain posters come across as playground bullies with arrogant inappropriate comments. If anyone disagrees or has a different viewpoint it is invariably met with offensive and personal insults.

I for one would be in favour of a ban of some sorts as is the case on other forums. Banter is one thing, offensive vitriol is quite another.

Agreed. If something is not done soon the Forum will end up with just four members.

That's been one of the problems on here for a long time.

Very little moderation.

Jamie can't be expected to be on here all the time and to make this a better site we may need others to help him out.

I am not volunteering at the moment as I have a lot of things going on but will be happy to assist if I can in the future.

Whilst understanding the difficulties of moderating any forum, in this case it's fairly simple.

Just ban the mouthpiece who thinks that he is better than all the rest of us mere collectors.

The rudeness bordering on obscene is tiresome at least and obnoxious at worst.

Posters like John have too much to offer to lose.

If people think a RED card is over the top perhaps

a system we use at the News (pompey) where there is a 'Report Abuse'

button.............then we can all be moderators, click that and 'PastPirate'

can decide Yes or No

I'm not over keen on Tynie Topics either but he is also important to the forum with good posts and good knowledge.

I'm not daft on over moderating but i've never found that to be the case on here. I think if anyone is seriously out of line, let them know that they have to cut it out or go somewhere they get on with people.

As far as treble is concerned, I think a lot of it is tongue in cheek and even if it isn't, it's still funny. Either way he's entitled to his point of view as is Bazza he is correct about a lot of it, if only he could put it across without personal attacks.

Maybe a "black card" system would work on this forum.

Any forum member could reply to a topic or a post stating "black card" (as in Red Dwarf).

This simply means END OF CONVERSATION and no more replies on the topic would be allowed.

The moderators could then interject and decide if any yellow or red cards are merited based on the posts of the forum members.

Lets try it and see what happens ?

I like that idea SS.

Plus as there is no "report" button system here please can people pm me to report a post.

No yellows

If a poster is reported it will be a straight red (Ban)

To start with it will be for a week but if the abuse continues it will be for good.

I'm not feeling the love Love

I think the bottom line here is that members should be a little more pro-active and help out Past Pirate, he canít monitor all posts on his own.

If in your opinion anyone steps out of line, let PP know and then it is upto him what sanction - if any - should be handed out.

The likes of personal abuse, casual racism, deliberately antagonistic posts and the like should - in my opinion - be a straight red, no excuses, but thatís for PP to decide where the line is.

Been on the website now for a month or so. My late brother was a collector and I inherited his collection. It was all over the place - in bin bags, shoe boxes..some envelopes opened, not opened. some damp some creased. I got it into some sort of shape, indexed and looked to see if anything was valuable. Where to go next? I looked on ebay - values fluctuate wildly. I had a look on members wants on here. Some programmes I had I offered to collectors on here looking for the same item. Some didn't reply. Some asked for a price, then didn't reply and others snatched my hand off without question making me wonder if I'd pitched too low. I took a couple of box files to the guy from Football Sports Auctions and they did pretty well (although one month on I'm still waiting for my money and return of items that didn't meet the reserve, is this the norm?)
Anyway, I want to offload the older pre 1960 stuff so I can get my bathroom done, maybe add to my Manchester City programmes and keep the rest to hand down to my son so that they can appreciate in value and give him a little nest egg. I don't know what sort of poster that makes me. I really can't understand the vitriol directed at newcomers and speculators on this forum. I've got more of a feel for the value of programmes by looking at some of the posts by the more sober and objective posters, however the majority of stuff is a tad harsh to say the least. As for the racist content, and "tongue in cheek" personal "banter", I don't think the more inflammatory comments should be tolerated just because the poster is well informed and a bona fide, proper hard core collector
