hello all,

I was thinking of collecting programmes from cup runs where my team has got to a cup final. Is this a popular thing to collect? I was thinking completed runs would look good in a binder.

cheers

There are no restrictions to collecting so go for it. As with all forms of collecting, you may not realise a profit if you need to sell but the pleasure is in the collecting.

Ive done it for both Pompey's fa cup runs in 2008 and 2010.....programmes, tickets, badges, team sheets, newspaper cuttings etc......some on here might refer to it as modern tat but as mentioned by Martino some (like me) do it as a collector and for fun not value!!! Razz

While I'm on the subject of cup runs I'm still after the 6th round fa cup ticket for Manchester united v Pompey 2008.....willing to pay a tenner!

Complete cup runs in ticket stubs are also very good, and can be framed as a display Easy

Cup runs are a good idea and are very popular, even with fans who normally don't collect. On this basis you could expect to pay a little higher. The 1973 run has sold recently for £250 plus. It would be cheaper to buy individually , but as I say fans want them . Sets build up could be worth more complete.
I wouldn't worry about modern tat Phil. Now is the time to collect whilst stuff is still about. 1973 is not that long ago , and the price of menus, tickets, newspapers etc. is amazing. In 30 years time, Pompey fans who are in their youth today will be paying good money for this "tat" . Believe me....

Am I right in thinking that there is a game against Notts County within that run which is particularly rare? I can't recollect why though.

Our one and only FA Cup win in 1946 was fun to collect what with it being the only season each round was played over two legs...as well as the different coloured single sheet issues Luton printed for the game at Kenilworth Road, the pirate issues for the Final itself and the game at Brighton which must be one of the smallest (in terms of dimensions) programmes ever printed!

I've collected the programmes from Bradford's League Cup run in 2013.

Yes, the Notts County away one goes for around £100. A full set of all programmes from the cup run went for £285 on ebay the other week. Thankfully, I already have a full set.

lets hope your 2015 FA cup run is not as large Laughing
Yes Derby, the Notts.Co. replay only four pages , quite scarce . Probably not many printed. 4 pages, or 16 pages , I guess it doesn't matter . It's all about the number printed...

Tickets are more interesting than programmes for cup runs because of the variations. I have final tickets from all parts of the ground, different prices, different colours, steward tickets, dressing room tickets, replay tickets ( never played ) , celebration tickets for the Hotel party after. Railway tickets, coach tickets.... It's great fun chasing them.
Of course with todays game, people are clued up with what collectors will buy. Hence a right old pile of plastic Unofficial crap. Choose wisely.

I like the duplicate ticket. That is a great find.

Got my cup "ticket" for Palace v (as it turns out) Liverpool yesterday.

It was added to my season ticket (ie bit of plastic) electronically.

Bang goes my 2014/5 cup ticket collection.

Sad

Hi Pete
I specifically got mine in person at the box office on Saturday because I didn't want that to happen to me! Just in case it's a 'full run' this year!

Six different grounds as part of that run in 1948 - is seven the record for the FA Cup proper?

Do you just mean by the winners or in general? Arsenal played at 8 in 1980.

Ninian Park and a Highbury replay (3rd round), Burnden Park (5th round), Vicarage Road (QF), Hillsborough, Villa Pk and Highfield Rd (SF), Wembley (F).
The previous season they had played on 7 grounds when winning the Cup

I guess both questions are interesting and valid - most grounds in the competition proper for the winners or for any other teams.
