22 years ago (1992) and a Division 4 play off semi leg 2nd leg between Blackpool and Barnet.

Blackpool overturned a 1-0 deficit from the 1st leg by winning 2-0 and made it through to Wembley for the 2nd year running.

The programme is a standard 32 page issue which rather prematurely includes Wembley travel details.

Like any Wembley programme post-1984, an absolute rip-off for the price charged.

63 years ago (1951) and Blackpool's 2nd Festival of Britain match, this one against the French side Stade Rennais.

The programme is just a single sheet.

Blackpool won 3-0 with goals from Mudie, Mortensen and a Shimwell penalty.

To leafy Surrey and, 31 years ago, Godalming Town's final home game of the season against Virginia Water in the Combined Counties League.

The home side lay third in the table, their opponents 14th.

The 20 page programme covers all aspects of the club, right down to how the darts team were doing (top of the table, for what it's worth). There's also a rather proud article on their programme being voted into the "top 20 non-league issues of 82/3" by members of the Wirral Programme Club (remember that?).

Of absolutely no relevance to this, but I remember Virginia Water as the location for Nicol Williamson's bitingly satirical 1969 movie "The Reckoning" which sets out to rip to shreds the "suburban English middle class". The location shots of the nannies of Virginia Water, the mock-tudor houses and the butchers shops with the grouse hanging outside are quite effective - though rather like taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut! Good movie nonetheless.

Though it's overt pro-Irish Republican stance makes for uncomfortable viewing, even today.

23 years ago (1991) and the final of the Lancashire Constabulary Chief Constables Cup between Western Division and Pennine Division.

The game was played at Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road ground and was an annual event for a number of years in the 80s and early 90s.

The programme is a 4 page issue with team line ups in the centre and route to the final details on the back cover.

19 years ago and the last game of the season for both sides.
2nd placed Cheadle Heath needed all 3 points to win the league (and overtake Warrington by one point) but Littlemoor, lying 3rd in the table, were no mugs.

Very readable, almost ad-free, 12 page programme issued for the occasion.

From the editorial, it would appear the club expected easily their biggest crowd of the season.

Did Cheadle do it? Yep. They won 5-1 in the end.

There was a late finish to the 1946/7 season, partly because of the weather, and in this case due to Charton’s FA cup run and their appearance in the final clashing with the fixture’s original date.

17th May was actually quite an early finish compared to some clubs who had games up to the middle of June.

Standard 4 page issue with team line ups across the centre and an advert for RHO Hills on the back cover.

The match ended 0-0.

The same day Blackpool played Charlton, Sheffield United were the visitors to the Baseball Ground.

2-1 win for the Blades saw them rise to 6th in the table and Derby drop to 13th. 17,660 in attendance.

The only reading material in the 8 page programme deals with season ticket applications for 47/8.

Last game of the extended 62/3 season for Derby saw them visit Deepdale.
Both clubs finished in the lower half of the table - 8,323 in attendance here to see a 1-0 win for Preston.
16 page issue has more to read than is otherwise evident at first glance. I especially like the manner in which the club's junior teams results are displayed on page 15.
The pools agents' upcoming "hotpot supper" sounds an event worth attending!

Wembley 35 years ago - two clubs for whom troubled times lay ahead.

Stafford lifted the trophy this day with a 2-0 victory, Alf Wood netting both goals.

The Gledhill Trophy Final has been played at Bloomfield Road for 47 years. It is a cup competition organised by the Blackpool and Fylde Sunday Football Alliance.

A 12 page programme was issued in 1987 for the fixture between Morleys and Dayton House.

Larry Milligan who played for Blackpool, Portsmouth, Aldershot and Rochdale was in the Dayton side who were managed by Keith Bowey, another former Blackpool player.

29 years ago and to Field Mill for the Northern Area Final of the F/Rover Trophy between Mansfield and Wigan.

George Foster put into his own net to give Wigan a 1-0 h/t lead but the same player equalised in the 90th minute to send the tie into extra time. No further goals, a penalty shoot-out, Wigan won that 3-1 and headed to Wembley to meet Brentford in the Final.

The 16 page programme appears to be a standard Mansfield issue which, at times, seems to struggle to fill the available space though there is an interesting article on "collecting football annuals" tucked away on page 12.

27 years ago (1987) and an end of season final at Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road ground.

This was the Hillhouse Site Challenge Cup Final between Lancashire County Fire Brigade and Lancashire County Police Force.

The game was organised to resurrect the old BLESMA Cup (British Limbless Ex Servicemens Association) which was contested many years ago in Blackpool between the local Fire Brigade, the Police and local banks.

A 4 page programme was produced printed on card.

I've a suspicion I may have posted this one last year but no time tonight to double back and check. So, if so, apologies.

No matter, though, it's a nice 4 page issue for the match which clinched the Football League (North) title for the Rams, Peter Doherty scoring the only goal of the game in front of 16,723 at a bomb-damaged Baseball Ground.

1994 and the De Croix International Youth Tournament held in France.

Blackpool were one of the 16 invited teams which included Barcelona, Benfica and Anderlecht.

The programme is a huge 96 page issue, in landscape format, which includes team photos of all 16 teams.

Two clubs with wildly contrasting seasons in 2013/14 but who, 23 years ago, moved in the same circles.

Having lost the first leg of their 4th division play-off fixture with Torquay by 2-0, Burnley did win the second leg at Turf Moor but only by 1-0 so Torquay moved on to the Wembley Final against Blackpool.

Burnley here issued a 32 page programme, rather heavy on the advertising content but with a few interesting articles such as the "where are they now" one on Jimmy McIlroy and a look back at the "Test Matches" of 1896/97 and 1897/98 which Burnley were involved in.

22 years ago (1992) and the Division 4 play off final between Blackpool and Scunthorpe United.

After the defeat on penalties the previous year, it was great to see Blackpool get to Wembley again but we had to suffer another shoot out before achieving promotion.

The programme is a 36 page large format issue designed and published by Wembley Stadium Limited.
