66 years ago (1948) and a 1st Division fixture between Preston North End and Blackpool.
One of Blackpool’s great away days with a resounding 7-0 victory. I wish I had been around to see that one.
McIntosh scored 5 with Munro and Rickett adding the other two.
The programme is the normal smallish size 12 page issue with a reasonable amount of reading but also with lots of adverts.

64 years ago 1950 and the County cup final between Sheffield United and Doncaster Rovers, which United won easily 3-0.
Donny's young left back impressed.
Went by the name of Charlie Williams
'Eh up flower' and all that.

A game that needs no introduction.
The 1953 FA Cup Final between Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers.
The programme is a standard 20 page Wembley Stadium Edition.
Also shown is a 4 page pirate printed by Buick.

Back to 1960 and Lynn are at home to Nottingham Forest. This was a joint testimonial match for Mick Manning and Jack Henderson.
Lynn lost 1-5.

They may be battling for their Championship status tomorrow but that's still a vast improvement on what was going on at Doncaster 16 years ago.
After a disastrous season which, I believe, saw their chairman try to burn the ground down for the insurance money, Rovers were 15 points adrift at the foot of the table and long since consigned to relegation to the Conference having won only 4 games all season, used about 80 players and had a manager who lasted all of 6 days or so.
For the final game of the season, they looked back to happier times and printed a programme with a nice old-fashioned cover for the visit of Colchester, themselves needing a victory to try and squeeze into the promotion places.
The 28 page issue has loads of historical articles, masses to read and a great deal of effort has gone into its production. On matt paper, too, rather than the usual glossy stuff. It also came with a 4 page insert fronted, in big, black letters "THERE IS SOMETHING ROTTEN AT BELLE VUE". Very effective! Along with advance notice of a "Save the Rovers" meeting.
Colchester won the match 1-0 and secured promotion.

A celebratory mood at Penlee Park 58 years ago today, the home team having clinched their first-ever title.
3rd placed Bodmin Town were the visitors, Penzance winning 2-0.
The 8 page programme has club notes on the front and back page but, other than advertising, not a lot in between.

64 years ago (1950) and an Inter League match between the Fylde District League and the Blackpool and District Amateur League.
The match was played at Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road ground.
The programme is a 4 page issue with team line-ups in the centre and adverts (one for Catterall and Swarbricks Brewery) on the back cover.

51 years ago - both clubs precariously perched just above the relegation zone as the extended 62/3 season drew to a close.
12,141 in attendance to watch a mistake-strewn goalless draw.
16 page programme issued. Plenty reading including a syndicated article on the current England Youth team (who had just won the International Youth Cup), a crossword, a "Blundell Park parking plan" listing all the side streets surrounding the ground and an interesting article detailing all the work on the stadium the Supporters' Club had undertaken over the last decade.
Great value for 3d.

Back to 2011 and King's Lynn Reserves take on Bugbrooke St. Michaels Reserves in the United Counties League Reserve Division 2 Cup. This was played at the ground of Eynesbury Rovers and Lynn lost 2-4.
In the days of spell check some of the spelling mistakes are attrocious, look at the spelling of 'supplementary' on the cover!

And another example of mis-spelling on the front cover! _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

Bit of an oddity here as the Plough & Harrow Barflys "borrow" Newstead's ground to host a Sunday league fixture with Boulevard.
It appears to be in return for both teams guaranteeing to spend the afternoon after the match drinking the Newstead Social Club's bar dry!
16 page very tongue-in-cheek programme issued.

70 years ago (1944) and the Football League War Cup Final 2nd leg between Aston Villa and Blackpool.
Blackpool were defending the cup and had won the 1st leg 2-1 but lost this one 4-2.
The programme is a 4 page issue with team line-ups and notes which solely comprised reports on the two semi final matches between Villa and Sheffield United and the 1st leg of the final against Blackpool.
There was also a 4 line report on Scotland 2 England 3 which said “before a record war-time gate of 133,000 at Hampden Park on April 22nd, the England side once more triumphed over the Scots”.

Back to 1953 and Lynn travel to 'Carrot Road' to take on Gorleston in the final of The Norfolk Senior Cup.
Lynn lose 0-3 in front of a crowd of 15723.
