66 years ago (1948) and Charlton Athletic Reserves visit 'The Stadium' Southend-On-sea to play Southend United Reserves in a Combination Cup tie.
The programme is misleading as it says Football League on the front.

30 years ago and Derby visit Heanor Town as part of the home club's centenary celebrations.
Single sheet supplement with team squads contained inside the programme.
A young Nigel Clough playing for Heanor!

Easter Saturday 77 years ago (1937) and a 2nd Division fixture between Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa.
The programme is a 16 page joint issue which also covers the fixture against Blackpool 2 days later on Easter Monday.
Blackburn lost to Villa 4-3 but beat Blackpool 2-0 which was a reverse of the fixture played on Good Friday.
3 games in 4 days and nobody complained there was too much football.

Not often you come across a programme where the editor apologises for the lack of an issue for the previous home game because he had too much homework to do
Highly laudable 12 pager produced by here for Cuckfield Cosmos' home game with Pegasus (who hailed from Brighton). The visitors had conceded 120 goals in their 16 league games to date so 'keeper Mark Hudson was probably in for another busy time.
There's match photos, a quiz, full statistical details on the season-to-date and the usual player profile ("what's your favourite drink?"...."Coke!").
Something a bit different, anyway.

Back to 1989 and Lynn are at home to Rushden Town. This Southern League, Midland Division match was drawn 0-0.
Looking like at the end of the season the printer had run out of colour ink!!

Just up the road from sharrows fixture, 78 years ago (1936) and a 2nd Division fixture between Fulham and Blackpool.
The programme is a very good 12 page issue and includes a piece that says ‘the best point of vantage for the Boat Race is the Fulham Football Ground - admission 6d’.
Fulham won the match 4-2 with Finan scoring both the Blackpool goals.

Back to 1961 and Lynn play Cambridge City in the 2nd Leg of the Culey Festival Cup. The first leg was played back in August and Lynn soundly hammered 6-1. They managed a 2-2 draw in this 2nd Leg match watched by 2831 spectators.
The cover is remarkably similar to the Blackpool programmes posted by Bisphamseasider. Which club had the cover first? Was it commonplace for teams to use a common cover? |

83 years ago and a first division clash at Upton Park between West Ham and Derby.
James Randall scores the only goal of the game for Derby in front of 16.658.
The usual 4 page advert-free Hammers issue but this one is printed on slightly thicker white paper which I believe the club would do for directors and their guests.

Blackpool had this cover from 49/50 to 56/7, firstly in black print then in blue.
The footballer, football and the stand, complete with flag, are identical.
The style of the header and of course the team name across the middle are to exactly the same design.
The skyline has been changed and the tower has been swapped for a church.
I imagine Cambridge City copied Blackpool's design but if there is a Cambridge one from 48/9 I'd be interested to see it.
I don't have one from this date to compare but here is an example.

The earliest Cambridge City home match with this design appears to be from the 58-59 season. |

52 years ago (1962) and a 1st Division fixture between Everton and Blackpool.
The programme is a 16 page issue with plenty of stats but not a great deal of reading. It does have a nice cover though.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw with Peterson and Charnley scoring for the Seasiders.
