46 years ago (1968) and a 2nd Division fixture between Blackpool and Aston Villa.

This was Blackpool’s first season in the second tier since the war and they narrowly missed going straight back up on goal difference.

They won this one 1-0 with Gordon Milne scoring the solitary goal.

The programme is a neat 12 page issue which had the League Review stapled in the centre.

68 years ago and a 3-1 win for Derby's reserve team at Saltergate.

The 4 page programme has lineups, a H/T scoreboard and a "lucky number" competition. Other than that, it's all advertising.

Including a full page one on the rear cover for "utility furniture" which rather reflects the times.

58 years ago (1956) and a 1st Division fixture between Blackpool and Newcastle United.

A top of the table clash with Blackpool in second place and Newcastle in fourth.

Blackpool won comfortably by 5 goals to 1 with Taylor, Mudie 2, Perry and Durie scoring for the Seasiders.

The programme is a standard 8 page issue, short on content but with recent Lancashire League and Fylde District League fixtures and results.

Charlton, one place outside the relegation zone, earn a vital 1-0 win at mid-table Derby in front of a crowd of 12,037.

The 16 page programme is, to put it mildly, poor value for money and was perhaps indicative of the club's somewhat lacklustre approach to just about everything at that point in time.

Indeed, the Baseball Ground attendances would dip well below 10,000 for the remainder of this forgettable season.

Back to 1951 and Lynn are away to Clacton Town in the Eastern Counties League. Lynn lost the match 0-1.
The programme is a 6 pager with several adverts and a small amount of club info.

61 years ago (1953) and Charlton beat Aston Villa 5 - 1 at The Valley. Shame there was only 10,382 people there to see it.

75 years ago (1939) and a 1st Division fixture between Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers.

The programme is a 20 page issue with a great cover showing a montage of match action scenes.

There is plenty of reading and statistics along with a fair few adverts.

The match ended in a goalless draw in front of about 19,000 spectators.

81 years ago and to Leeds Road, Huddersfield for an FA Cup Semi-Final tie between Derby County and Manchester City.

51,961 in attendance to (sadly) see City triumph 3-2.

20 page programme issued includes pen-pics of both teams' players and details of how they got to this stage of the competition.

The front cover is, like Blackpool's, another example of how many of these pre-war programmes are works of art.

Plenty of advertising present but it's mostly of a vintage that makes you realise how different a world it really was back then.

The match ended 1-1 with Mortensen scoring for the Seasiders and with over 38,000 in attendance.

Back to 1983 and Lynn host Macclesfield Town in the Northern Premier League. The match ended in a 1-1 draw in front of 386.

Standard programme from the era. Few club details, details which are included are not kept upto date.

48 years ago today and a Youth International match at the County Ground, Northampton.

From the line-ups, I don't think too many of these players made it to the full national side. David Nish, for one...any others? Indeed, I suspect a few never even made it as far as a full league appearance.

The 12 page programme bears no resemblance to the Cobblers' home issue of that season. It's advert-free and the reading consists of an introduction from Denis Follows, detailed pen-pics of both teams' players and, oddly, given that England were the home team, full results of Wales' youth games against the home nations back to 1948.

Pages 2 and 12 are blank.

77 years ago (1937) and a 2nd Division fixture between Aston Villa and Blackpool.

This was a promotion season for Blackpool and they went into this fixture top of the table.

It must have been one of those days though with Villa running out 4-0 winners in front of a crowd of just under 55,000.

The programme is an excellent 16 page issue full of reading and information.
