69 years ago and a Football League (North) fixture at the Baseball Ground.

17,428 in attendance to watch a 2-1 win for the Rams courtesy of a Raich Carter double. Price netted for the visitors.

4 page programme issued on light green paper.

West Ham v Rovers from 1956.
4 pages for 3d but no adverts.
Printed on very thin paper that is a bugger to keep in good condition.

70 years ago (1944) and a War Cup 1st Rd 2nd leg tie between Everton and Blackpool.

This match also counted towards the Northern Section 2nd Competition.

The programme is just a single sheet showing the team line ups on the front and with a blank back page.

Blackpool won 3-1 with goals from Dix and Mortensen 2 making the aggregate 10-2.

The programme for the 1st leg at Bloomfield Road was featured on 4th March.

This day in 1987 and, as the front cover states, the opening game at Vauxhall FC's new ground.

The FA XI included, amongst others, Bobby Charlton, Joe Royle, Phil Neal, Brian Kidd and Ray Mathias.

Glossy 32 page programme is a bit heavy on the advertising but the excellent historical articles on the home club are worth the price alone.

59 years ago (1955) and a 1st Division fixture between Chelsea and Blackpool.

The programme is an excellent 16 page issue packed with reading, information and photos and not an advert in sight.

Over 55,000 witnessed a 0-0 draw which was a great result for a Blackpool side in the wrong half of the table, against a side challenging for the title.

Northumberland Senior Cup S/F this day in 1983.
Prudhoe East End v Blyth Spartans.

The problem with trying something a little bit different is that it doesn't always work out as one planned.

I guess it wasn't till the programme came back from the printers that someone at the club said a) "yeah, the font you used certainly stands out"...then b) "err, I think you've misspelt the name of our club!"

No matter - a reasonable 8 page programme with pen-pics of both teams (Dave Murray, ex-Sheffield Weds, is the Prudhoe player-manager) and club notes written by the home club's chairman.

The only ad is on the back page and is for a structural contracting firm.

66 years ago (1948) and an FA Cup semi final between Blackpool and Tottenham Hotspur played at Villa Park.

This was Blackpool’s first FA Cup semi which they won 3-1 after extra time.

Mortensen scored all 3 and the attendance was around the 70,000 mark although I have seen it recorded as 65,000 in some publications.

The programme is 8 pages, without adverts, and includes full page photos of both teams.

Would it be fair to say Linnet, that Kings Lynn (Town) over the years have played on more grounds than most non-league clubs, and that for regular away travellers it will have been an amazing ground hopping experience with matches in both Northern and Southern leagues as well as many other leagues as well?

Mansfield reserves v Plymouth reserves this day in 1965.

What strikes me here (apart from wondering what, all those years ago, possessed me to punch holes in all these reserve issues in order to file them) is the preponderance of highly unusual surnames contained within each of the teams.

24 years ago (1990) and Charlton visit Margate for Joe Radford's Testimonial.

A little bit of research shows Joe played 356 times in goal for Margate between 1984 & 1991.

63 years ago (1951) and an FA Cup semi final replay between Blackpool and Birmingham City played at Goodison Park.

Blackpool won 2-1 to take them to Wembley for the second time since the war, with Mortensen and Perry scoring for the Seasiders and Smith replying for Birmingham.

The attendance was a little over 70,000.

The programme is 12 pages, full of reading and with photos of both teams.

This day 61 years ago and 33,670 at Ninian Park to see 13th placed Cardiff beat Derby, one place above the relegation zone, 2-0.

Williams and Northcott with the goals.

12 page programme issued includes a letter from the board to the Cardiff supporters attempting to explain the difficulties the club had faced in the transfer market over the past few weeks and the resultant lack of activity on the transfer front. "We have been subjected to a lot of abuse from people who write us anonymously" bemoans the Chairman but "on our present gates, we are not paying our way".

It's an honest, self-critical reply - which is more than the current Cardiff fans ever get from their present owner.

75 years ago (1939) and a 1st Division fixture between Chelsea and Blackpool.

The programme is an 8 page issue with the usual variety of content.

The match ended 1-1 with Dodds getting the Blackpool goal.
