A couple of miles from Falkirk lies the village of Camelon and, this day in 1983, the local junior team faced mighty Pollok in a Scottish Junior Cup 6th round tie

The home club went to some effort to produce a very readable 16 page programme which includes a full page photo of a wartime Camelon team. Indeed, a bottle of lemonade is on offer to the first person to name all the players shown!

There's also an interesting article on "The Final That Never Was" - a reference to the 1931 Junior Cup Final replay when Burnbank Athletic, due to a disagreement over an opposing player's registration, quite literally did not appear for the match (due to be played at Tynecastle).

43 years ago (1971) and a youth international between England and Northern Ireland.

The match was played at Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road ground.

The programme is 8 pages, and like the schoolboy programme I featured yesterday, was printed locally by United Printing Services, the printer of the Blackpool programme. This programme however was smaller in size dimension wise.

I don't think many of the England players on view that day went on to have careers with professional clubs but one of them, Brian Pollard, made 410 league appearances with 78 goals for various clubs, including 264 appearances in two different spells for York City. He also appeared for the England Youth team 5 times.

66 years ago and a Q/Final replay at the BBG sees a convincing 5-0 win for the Rams over 3rd Division QPR in front of 31,588.

Man Utd up next in the semi-final.

8 page programme issued. Not much to read other than a syndicated article by News Of The World writer Harry Ditton on the battle between those who believe football to be an art and those pragmatists who would set out to win at all costs.

Harry comes down on the side of artistry - and blames the fans' demands for success as being behind the "result is all" mentality which was becoming more and more prevalent.

Nothing's changed, then...

72 years ago (1942) and a North Regional Football League 2nd Competition fixture between Blackpool and Burnley.

This was one of Blackpool’s highest war time results with victory by 13 goals to nil.

The goals came from Dodds 5, Mortensen 4, Jones C. 2 and Burbanks 2.

The previous week the Seasiders had put 15 past Tranmere.

The programme is a standard 4 page war time issue but with a blank back cover.

Back to 2009 and Lynn are at away to AFC Telford United in the Blue Square North, the highest league Lynn have managed to play in. The match was drawn 1-1 with Lynn's goal coming from Dom Dwyer, local lad now plying his trade with Sporting Kansas City in the MLS-recently linked with a loan move to Charlton.
Attendance was 1990.
Although Lynn finished 17th in the league they were demoted due to ground grading issues!!

27 years ago and what the programme states to be "the biggest ever match to take place on this ground".

Weymouth - with Steve Claridge and Tony Agana included in their lineup - visit Dorset Combination side Shaftesbury Town for a Dorset Senior Cup semi-final tie.

16 page programme issued. 3 pages of Weymouth pen-pictures, an article on the home club's history (they were formed in 1888)and a big map of Dorset showing where all the local clubs are situated.

I've no idea which of the two clubs progressed to the Final.

60 years ago (1954) and a Lancashire Senior Cup 2nd Rd match between Accrington Stanley and Blackpool.

The programme is a very good 16 page issue but doesn’t have a date or clear indication as to what the nature of the fixture is until you read the club notes.

Accrington played a number of floodlight friendlies around this time and the programme is sometimes shown in catalogues and on the internet as a friendly.

To compound matters, the game ended in a draw, and the replay which was played under floodlights at Accrington a week later, had another similar 16 page programme issued.

There is often much confusion about these 2 programmes.

Blackpool went on to win the Lancashire Senior Cup that year defeating Liverpool in the final after another replay.

Back to 1958 and Lynn are at home to Frickley Colliery (now Athletic), in
the Midland League. Lynn won 1-0 in front of a crowd of just over 2000.

This day in 1969 and Derby win 3-2 at Bloomfield Road in front of 18.853 to commence a run of 11 wins in 12 games which would see them promoted back to the First Division.

I've also included a scan of a press photo I own from the game which has been autographed by some of the players involved.

The 16 page programme comes with a copy of Football League Review stapled within it. Worth having as it includes a colour photo of the Bradford PA squad from that season.

According to wikipedia, Weymouth won the cup that season. It was in the middle of a hat trick of wins in that competition.

An early kick-off 34 years ago as Shepperton Sports head to Pinner Park Rangers for a Middlesex Junior Cup tie.

4 page programme issued.

The home side played in the third division of the Hayes & District League.

27 years ago (1997) and its the Full Members Cup Semi-Final. Norwich City visited Selhurst Park, during Charlton's exile from The Valley.

5,431 turned up for the Semi which was a great improvement on previous rounds - 821 v Birmingham (2nd Round), 817 v Bradford (3rd Round).

Charlton won 2-1 and went on to lose to Blackburn 1-0 in the final.

86 years ago (1928) and a 2nd Division fixture between Blackpool and Hull City.

Blackpool home programmes from the 1920s or earlier are extremely rare and this one being in excellent condition has to be one of my top programmes.

It is a 12 page issue with a fair bit of reading, fixtures and league tables including the Northern Mid-Week Football League and plenty of interesting adverts.

Blackpool won the match 2-1 with goals from Oxberry and Downes.
