Just 17 years ago (1997) and a Lancashire FA Youth Cup semi final tie between Blackpool and Manchester United.

A 4 page programme was issued which was a nice departure from the usual A4 team sheets which were normally issued for youth and reserve fixtures.

There were pen pictures of both squads inside with the team line ups on the back cover.

Clarke Carlisle was amongst the Blackpool X1 and Wes Brown and Richie Wellens (a future Blackpool favourite) amongst the United X1.

United won 3-1.

Back to 1989 and Lynn are away at Ashtree Highfield in the Southern League Midland Division. At the end of the season Ashtree Highfield became Sandwell Borough.
Lynn lost this match 0-1 in front of a meagre 35 spectators.

30 years ago and 2 of the top 4 in the Manchester Premier League meet in a Gylgryst Cup tie at Seel Park, Mossley.

4 page programme has copious notes and stats packed in to a very tight space and, accordingly, very good value for money.

Game was played at Mossley as the new fence being erected at Waterloo's own ground was taking longer to complete than they expected (due to the snow affecting the area back then).

At the same time as Blackpool were beating Colchester to reach the 6th round of the Cup, Derby were winning 2-1 at Ayresome Park to join them in the Q/Final draw.

43,000 in attendance. Goals from Reg Harrison and Jack Stamps.

4 page programme issued. Not much to read other than an introduction to the Rams on the back page.

I've never known why, for years, 'Boro programmes had the phrase "Key Card" on the cover. Anyone enlighten me?

I understand that Boro were one of the pioneers (maybe the first) of the old half-time scoreboards. From 1907/8 through to 33/4 they even had an illustration of their half time scoreboard on the cover of their programme with the phrase “Key Card” next to it. You may note on page 2 of the said programme is a list of fixtures titled "Key to the half-time scoreboard". I can only assume that the phrase “Key Card” relates to the fixtures on the half-time scoreboard. They had the phrase on the front of their programmes up to 63/4 season. Hope that all makes sense Laughing

59 years ago (1955) and a 1st Division match between Tottenham Hotspur and Blackpool.

The programme is a standard large size 4 page issue full of reading, fixtures and tables and without any adverts.

Tottenham won 3-2 with Hepton and William (Billy) Wright scoring the Blackpool goals.

This was Wright’s only goal of the season and only his second overall in his few appearances for the club.

Back to 1949 and Lynn visit Layer Road, to play Colchester United Reserves in the Eastern Counties League. Lynn lost the match 1-6 in front of a crowd of 3127.

The programme is a 4 pager, containing club info and league table. Not an ad in sight!!

9,150 in attendance at Belle Vue to watch Doncaster beat a relegation-bound Derby 2-0.

The 16 page programme focuses heavily on the club's ongoing FA Cup saga with Aston Villa which was, by now, onto replay number three (at Hillsborough).

I do wonder who Tommy Pugh was. If anyone does, let him know his programme is in good hands Smile

43 years ago (1971) and the 1st post war league meeting at Highfield Road between Coventry City and Blackpool.

The quality of programmes as we entered the 70s was improving very quickly, some clubs a lot more than others.

This 24 page issue was a superb example of what could be done and with only one advert as well.

Coventry won 2-0 and gained revenge for the reverse at Blackpool just before Christmas.

You don't see too many of these going around.

Single sheet issue from Earle FC who, I presume, were a Liverpool-based club. Copious club notes in tiny print on the reverse.

Little bit moth-eaten but it all adds to the charm and authenticity Smile

Yes, Earle FC were a Liverpool based club who played in Wavertree and laterly Halewood before they folded.

I think there is an attempt at humour in there somewhere. Laughing

It's not orange, it's tangerine.

61 years ago (1953) and a programme from Blackpool’s FA Cup run to the famous 1953 final.

This was a 5th Rd tie against Southampton but Blackpool needed a replay 4 days later to go through.

This match finished 1-1 with Perry getting Blackpool’s goal.

The programme is a standard 8 page issue.

33 years ago and a Sheffield Challenge Cup tie between Swinton and Worksop.

Must have been a lot of entrants seeing as how Swinton had seen off five teams already and this was still only the second round.

Single sheet issue, presumably free with entry. Nothing printed on the reverse.

25p for adults, 10p for OAPs....were kids not welcome??

Back to 1982 and Lynn are away at Mossley in the 3rd Round of the Northern Premier League Cup (Incirrect date printed on cover!). The match was drawn 0-0.

The programme is a mix of club notes, and several pages devoted to the proofessional game.

There are also a large amount of ads throughout the programme, obviously the one below would not make it into a modern day programme.
