I've been waitng a few weeks for a programme i won in the offers page. I sent a cheque immediately but i'm still waiting. I can understand people waiting for a cheque to go through the bank ...but don't you have to put in into the bank for it to pay??? |

That's what i was getting at, the cheque has not been cashed. So i've got to wait till they go to the bank , then the cheque to clear until i get my programme. Maybe it was held up in the postage strike and i'm being a little harsh. To be honest, this is the beauty of palpal in that it cuts out the waiting but of course it has it's drawbacks... |

It took a while 2-3 weeks to receive some progs advertised at a fixed price in PM a few issues ago.
And a rareish one that had been underpriced had been sold despite me sending the cheque first class the day the mag arrived.Wasn't a happy bunny. |

Programme Monthly used to be THE place to buy football programmes from, but about three years back you could see people first of all downsizing their adverts from full page ones to lineage, and then not putting them in at all due to faster responses being available on ebay.
Over the years I've had some fantastic deals in PM, both buying and selling, but I think it's now looking very dated. The majority of the adverts now seem to stem from John Litster, the editor, in an effort to keep the same amount of advert pages as previous?
There's no doubt that the articles in PM are still as good as they've always been, but the adverts, I believe, are slowly dying a natural death. How does PM combat this? I would advocate that they're in no position any more to take on the internet, and that perhaps a niche could be established with just straight sale programmes? That way sales can be as instant, if not even quicker, than the internet as people wouldn't need to wait to find out if their bids have been successful. |

You are spot on. I would never put up with this wait on Ebay. Times have changed and i don't think i'll bother bidding with Progamme Monthly again. |

Remember it is holiday time so you may just be unfortunate that the person you won the item from is or has been away and is playing catch up.
I'm as guilty as anyone too for not sending out items quickly enough but sometimes there are valid reasons. Give the person a ring/email if you can if not you may have to send a letter. I don't see why this should stop anyone from buying PM though as its not the magazines fault. _________________ Regards,

Nobody's saying that it's PM's fault, it's the time that it now takes to actually get hold of programme once you've had your bid in. In the "olden days" before ebay, it was okay, and a tried and trusted method for postal auctions to run between two and three weeks. As there was no alternative everybody played by the same rules.
Nowadays, there is the instantaneous solution via ebay. I've bought all my programmes via auction off there for the last 3 years or so. I can usually see a picture of the programme, I can contact the seller without having to pay for it, pay for the programme electronically, and see if the vendor is trustworthy or not via their feedback. Much as I now dislike ebay for their current sharp practices it's still the best vehicle for buying programmes via auction, unless you choose to use one of the specialist auction houses like Sportingold. That's why I'm of the opinion that unless someone like PM doesn't go to straight sales it will become increasingly difficult for them to compete.
On a similar note, programme fairs could have the capacity to be even more popular that the internet if people took the items they would normally keep for auction purposes. It's instant, you can see the programmes in their undiluted state, and speak to the stallholders who pass on seasoned advice for nothing - yet fairs are shrinking in their volume. It doesn't make sense, does it? |

Well said. To think i paid a lot of money for a programme i haven't seen yet, at least you get a pic on Ebay. ( i must be mad lol). To be honest i don't hold with the holiday idea. When i sell programmes i make sure i am available to send them off at once. I've emailed a few times but no answer as yet. In the great scheme of things it's not a major problem it's just when you've paid for something you want it asap. |

And, of course, I'll put in a word about overseas buyers.
Programme Monthly is no good to me since it would cost around £5 or £6 per month just to get the magazine via e*mail and it would take one or two weeks after publication to get to me.
I can pay someone via PayPal and they can receive British ££s and the money comes out of my US $$ Bank account right away. What gets me are those British sellers who refuse to deal with overseas sellers. What's the problem here ? It's true that sometimes items in the post go astray but isn't that also a problem with domestic UK buyers as well ?
There's one seller now on E*Bay for the Cheltenham vs Donny Rovers who is saying UK Bidders only. I had a chap in Essex who wouldn't post to me here in the US but now I've apparently converted him as I was the only one bidding on many of his programmes.
Don't forget we here in the US are lead to believe that we'll come out of this recession before the UK and Europe so we have more purchasing power. Not the recession has affected my buying power. The main thing I worry about are forgeries and reproduction programmes where I feel vulnerable being overseas. |
