60 years ago (1954) and a Central League fixture between Aston Villa and Blackpool.

The programme is a standard 12 page issue packed with information and stats including a number of match reports covering the various leagues Villa participted in.

Unlike most of my other Villa v Blackpool programmes from this era, this one only covers the one game.

The match ended 1-1.

1965 and a visit to Hertfordshire for an Amateur Cup 2nd round tie against Bishop's Stortford at Rhodes Avenue, the home side winning 4-1. Four page oversize programme - which must be almost impossible to find in pristine condition - printed blue on white(cover) and black on white (inside).

Back to 1991 and Lynn are away at Grantham Town in the 3rd Round, 2nd Leg of The Larchimage Windows League Cup (nice short title!!). This
had been postponed from 2 weeks earlier. The 1st leg was drawn 2-2 and this leg was drawn 1-1. Grantham won on away goals. (Bet Man U wish that was the case last night).

26 years ago and a rather splendid issue from Prestbury Rovers to cover their Cheltenham League Division 2 clash with Cheltenham Civil Service as well as their reserve team's fixture in Division 5 against Endsleigh FC.

16 page issue on glossy paper - and how about that for a distinctive programme cover? The lineups on the centre pages are in pre-war format (2-3-5, which just "looks" right to me) and a number of other unusual features such as "First Aid Hints", "Bakeries" and "The Muppet Show".

Unusual programme (how many other club's quizzes ask the monetary unit of Romania?) and a cracking read.

They're obviously a very democratic club. For their end-of-season function, supporters are asked to cast their vote for either a) a dinner dance b) a disco with buffet or c) a piss-up.

Bet I know which one won Smile

1981 and a Middlesex Border League fixture between our Reserve team and their counterparts from Hungerford Town which ended 1-1. Hungerford finished 9th and Maidenhead 13th (of 16), Edgware Town won the Championship. Poorly duplicated A5 single sheet printed one side only on green paper thankfully given away free of charge.

61 years ago (1953) and a 1st Division fixture between Sunderland and Blackpool.

A crowd of over 53,000 witnessed a 1-1 draw with Stan Hepton getting Blackpool’s goal in his only 1st team appearance of the season.

The programme is a nice 16 page issue with plenty to read.

Back to 1959 and Trowbridge Town are the visitors to The Walks. Lynn won this Southern League (South Eastern Zone) encounter 2-1 in front of just over 2000 spectators. This was Lynns first season in the Southern League having predominantly played Midland League Football.

The programme is a 4 page effort with lots of snippets of information.

66 years ago and a 4th round FA Cup tie at Gresty Road.

Having beaten South Shields, Workington and then Sheffield United, Crewe were drawn against a Derby side on a run of 6 straight victories.

14,000 in attendance but no giant-killing as the Rams ran out 3-0 winners. Billy Steel with 2 goals, Reg Harrison with the third.

8 page programme issued has some very interesting articles including a full page on the players' reactions to the 3rd round victory over Sheffield Utd and secretary J.Bailey reminiscing about what the club was like when he joined, way back in 1919.

Nice programme. More to it than meets the eye.

1983 and 72 people watched a friendly at York Road against Hillingdon Borough. Wayne Wanklyn and an own goal were the scorers for Maidenhead in a 2-2 draw. Double sided A4 sheet issued, price 10p.

56 years ago 1958, United cause a sensation by beating Spurs at White Hart Lane 3-0. The Old man went, and said it was one of the best away days ever. In those days trains left late from st pancras (I think) around Midnight and many supporters had stayed drinking in the London pubs. Darlington had also managed a draw at Stamford Bridge so there was a carnival atmosphere by the time it came to get the train. The old man said it was a great sight so many red and white scarves waving frantically. I asked him why? He said that many of them had boarded the Darlington train by mistake Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

56 years ago and an 8 page issue for Selby's Yorkshire League fixture with Stocksbridge Works.

Most of the programme is advertising but the club notes are interesting. As well as mourning the passing of the regular compiler of the column, Teddy DeBierre (now there's a good Yorkshire name!), they also pose a quiz question....the prize? "None. my friends, just a good argument" to quote the editor.

There's also a plea for supporters to bring a friend ("you all have at least one friend") in order to swell the worryingly low attendances at the club.

One advert is for Chilvers & Palframan who are, by trade, "Provender Millers"....perhaps someone could satiate my curiosity and tell me what a provender miller purveys?

79 years ago (1935) and a 2nd Division fixture between Brentford and Blackpool.

The programme is a large style 12 page issue with about 50% adverts but also with plenty of reading.

Brentford were 3rd with Blackpool 2 points behind in 5th at the start of this fixture but Blackpool failed to close the gap going down by 2 goals to one.

23 years ago and a Suffolk & Ipswich Lge relegation battle between BT Research and Old Newton.

A more than worthy 24 page programme issued includes a whole page describing exactly what it is that the 3,200 staff employed in that department of BT do their research on.

The football club had certainly had their share of successes and their honours won over the years were so numerous that they, too, took up a whole page.

There's also a full page article reviewing, in highly colourful language, the club's Xmas night out in Grundisburgh...X-rated material!

1962 and a trip to Didcot for a Berks & Bucks Benevolent Cup tie which Maidenhead won 3-1. Four page programme, professionally printed red on white cover, black on white typed and duplicated information inside. Didcot was in Berkshire in 1962 before being transferred to Oxfordshire in 1974.

1951 and to Kingston-upon-Thames for a London Intermediate Cup 4th Round tie between Hawker Athletic's reserves and their opponents that day - to give them their full title - the Tunnel Cement Co. Sports Club, who hailed from Sidcup in Kent and described in the programme as "unknown quantities".

Unusual 8 page gatefold programme includes 1 page of club notes the usual lineups and league tables and copious amounts of advertising for mostly household goods.
