Very basic 8 page programme, no fixture lists or oppositions pen pics. League tables printed when it suited!!

I like that front cover design.

1960 and a Amateur Cup 1st round tie at home to Sutton United and a crowd of 2,300 witnessed a 1-1 draw. Usual eight page programme - with an rather uninspiring cover - printed black on pale blue paper.

43 years ago (1971) and a 1st Division fixture between Liverpool and Blackpool.

Blackpool continued their good form at Anfield with a 2-2 draw and were unlucky not to come away with both points.

Burns and Pickering were the Blackpool scorers in front of 43,000 spectators.

The programme was 16 pages and came with the League Review fastened in the centre.

Back to 1965 and King's Lynn were away at Cheltenham Town, in the Southern League, Premier Division. Lynn lost the match 2-0. Nice programme, including league fixture and tables. No pen pics though

18 years after Boston won 6-1 at the Baseball Ground, Derby exorcised the demons by winning 6-1 at York Street - though needed this replay to progress.

12 page programme appears to be a standard Boston issue of the time.

9,000 in attendance - note the kick-off time. Britain in the middle of the three day week. So no games under floodlights.

Austerity - the more things change, the more they stay the same.

1948 and a visit to the Saffrons for a Corinthian League match against Eastbourne which the home side won 2-0. Maidenhead finished 8th, Eastbourne 9th (of 14), Walton & Hersham won the title. Eight page programme with colour on the cover, black on white inside.

First couple of paragraphs of an enlightening match report...

Back to 1953 and an Eastern Counties League match away at Crittall Athletic. Lynn lost by the odd goal in 7. Lynn finished 2nd in the League (out of 19). The programme is a four pager.

45 years ago and a Friday evening Central League fixture at Highfield Road featuring two rather strong line-ups.

Two goals from Ricky Marlowe gave the Rams a 2-1 win in front of around 4,000 of a crowd.

Single sheet issue costing 2d.

To 1975 and Kings Lynn get dumped out of the FA Trophy at the 1st round stage away at Matlock Town. Matlock were in the NPL whilst Lynn were in the Southern League-1st Division.
The programme is a 6 page gatefold issue, mainly containing adverts.

67 years ago and Derby negotiate a tricky tie at Dean Court, winning 2-0 in front of a crowd of 18,438.

8 page programme issued, red type on white paper. The only article is from the club secretary, apologising for the fact that so many of the club's regular supporters couldn't get a ticket for this match.

Plenty advertising, though.

Back to 1957 and King's Lynn were at home in the Midland League to Notts. County Reserves. The match ended in a 4-4 draw in front of a crowd of 2673.

The programme is an 8 page issue and full of information, including club notes, supporters notes, league table, 1st and 2nd team results. The cover was standard for the season.

22 years ago and a Sunday morning friendly for Nottingham-based Berridge Sports.

To say Berridge were prolific would be an understatement - they had plundered 142 goals from the 30 games they had played in the season to date. But still lay only third in the first division of the Nottinghamshire Friendly League. Perhaps that's because they had also conceded 99 goals!

As this (somewhat hastily arranged) game was against Eastmill, who lay bottom of the second division, I expect they managed to plunder a few more. Eastmill had lost their previous game 14-1.

The 8 page programme is advert-free but also omits one rather important feature - team lineups.

The inclusion of Peter Beardsley on the front cover? Who knows....

68 years ago (1946) and a Football League North fixture between Leeds United and Blackpool.

Blackpool won 2-1 with goals from O’Donnell H. and Buchan and completed the double the following week with a 4-2 win at Bloomfield Road.

The programme was a typical 4 page post war issue with a couple pages of notes and just one advert but which covered the whole of the back page.

80 years ago (1934) and an FA Cup 3rd Rd tie between Cheltenham Town and Blackpool.

Blackpool were in the 2nd Division whereas Cheltenham played in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League and also the Birmingham Combination.

Blackpool won the tie 3-1 with goals from Bussey, Watson P. and Doherty.

The programme was 12 pages with plenty of content.

1923 and a Spartan League fixture against Great Eastern Railway (Romford). Maidenhead finished 4th, GER 6th (of 14), Chesham United won the Championship. Usual four page programme issued printed black on red paper.

And the Great Eastern Railway team were late because of the trains...

24 years ago and a "battle of the classes" as ex-public schoolboys Old Edwardians take on the miners of Goldthorpe (near Barnsley) in a Whitbread County League fixture. Both clubs were in the bottom four though Goldthorpe had a stack of games in hand on all the clubs around them.

The home club issued a splendid 24 page programme costing just 25p - the evocative front cover itself worth the purchase price. Loads to read including some very tongue-in-cheek pen-pictures of the visiting team.

This colliery closed in 1994 and I'm not sure whether or not the football club kept going after that.

Back to 1969 and King's Lynn travel to Bedford Town for an Eastern Professional Floodlight League match. The programme is a single sheet issue, which is not uncommon for EPFL matches. King's Lynn won the match 3-1.

75 years ago (1939) and a 1st Division fixture between Aston Villa and Blackpool.

A superb 16 page programme was issued full of reading material and facts and figures.

Villa won the match 3-1 in front of a gate of around 34,000.
