Like many folk, I'm partial to a pint or two, or a nice glass of red now and again (or bottles at the Wickerman Festival) but for years I never drunk at home apart from the odd bottle of malt, or the ubiquitous bottle of win with the evening meal.

Now though, we hardly touch the red wine as we've discovered some really nice traditionally made ciders, and am currently imbibing Henry Weston's Special Vintage cider @8.2%, a particularly robust wee thing. I don't abuse it - far from it - but have a bottle with the evening meal instead of wine and it goes just as well, if not better, with most dishes.

Weston's also do a really nice traditional perry, something I'd not seen since my mature student days in Oxford in the mid 1980's. There used to be a pub in Headington called the Black Boy where you could get a small glass occasionally - but hardly anyone drank it then.

Real ale's my drink of choice if I'm out at night, or if there's a really traditional cider on draught maybe that instead. There's a really nice pub near my mother's in Derby called the Five Lamps (because it's in the Five Lamps district) that always has 12 real ales and 3 real ciders on the go - proper drinks orgasm central!

You?????????????????????????

If I`m socialising I love several fresh crisp pints of Stella.....I know shame on me!

However If I go out with my occasional drinking partner(about once every 3 months) I`m quite partial to Cornish Ales ie Doom Bar and another called Tribute with a slightly sweet tang that goes a treat.

At the end of the night and after about five pints of the above my heart rules my head and I finish off with a large neat Scotch (no ice) which is guaranteed to make me feel like s*** in the morning ! No

My Uncle tried varnish in his Guinness and had a horrible death, but a lovely finish.

Because of health problems, my Dad had to have a dose of Andrews liver salts before and after every drink. When he died, I was called down to the cemetery to beat his liver to death with a stick.

I last had alcohol Xmas day 1999. I must say,I was partial to a Bailey's but my favourite was Tennents velvet, cracking pint.

I now have a serious tea habit.

I'm a cider man. Some of the Westons stuff is excellent, I agree with auckinleckian, the 8.2% stuff is almost like a wine and tastes great.

However if Neil Warnock takes charge at Hillsborough I will need something a lot stronger!!

Have to agree with Matt about the Pendle, my favorite brewery is Ossett Ales especially the Yorkshire Blonde and Silver King, my local brewerys do great beer, if you ever get a chance to try Saltaire's Cherry Stout go for it. Salamander do a lovely Golden Salamander and further south i love Oakham ales JHB and Milton's Bombers Drop.

To sum it up real ale with the occasional Elderflower cider Laughing

Thwaites Lancaster Bomber.

A traditional full-bodied chestnut coloured ale with an inviting malty aroma and warming aftertaste.

Brewed on the right side of the Pennines too. Laughing

There's a fairly decent pub about 10-15 minutes away. I think it is called Uncle Jacks.

Good selection of real ales and some good pies as well.

Unfortunately when travelling to Blackburn by coach we rarely get the opportunity to drink locally. Lancashire plod are a bit strict with local derbies.

You must be a bloody fast walker, more like 30 minutes. If you want to try it when you come to Ewood, dont wear any colours, meet me and we will time it, net it takes even longer to walk from Uncle Jacks to the ground Laughing

Websters brewery closed in the mid 90s

I am very fond of all the Williams bros brews I have tried so far, particularly the Joker I.P.A and the Seven Giraffes.

Yes, I have been known to walk quite fast when seeking out a pint before an away game. Laughing

However, will probably travel by coach on 1st of Feb as it more convenient but with little time for a pint. Usually have one or two before departure rather than on arrival for the nearer games.

If plans change I will drop you a pm nearer the time. Thumbs Up

It was a lovely pint when in Halifax but i never had a good pint in Bradford. The best pint of Websters i ever had was in the Three Pigeons near the Shay. This establishment is now owned by Ossett Ales, i can thoroughly recommend a trip there if traveling to the Shay, try and go by train as the beer can be rather good there. In the olden days i went to the Shay for a game met some Halifax fans i knew in the 3P nipped out at half time for another pint, then straight back in after the game, we all spent the night on the pub floor Laughing
