75 years ago (1938) and a 16 page programme for a 1st Division fixture between Derby County and Blackpool.

Unusually the teams were shown on the front cover.

A plain programme crammed with adverts but also with a little reading matter.

Derby won 2-1 in front of 21,000 spectators.

41 years ago ....October 1st 1972

Koge v Vejle - Danish 1st Division

4 page programme with the wonderfully named Haarlev Tommerhandel company on the front.

Would have been a great name for s speedway rider that. Nod

Koge merged with Herfolge in 2009

Koge is the headquarters of the supermarket chain, Netto (more useless facts tomorrow Laughing )

1938 and a visit to local neighbours, Marlow, for a Spartan League fixture which ended 2-2. Marlow finished 12th, Maidenhead 9th (of 14), the champions were the Metropolitan Police.

Large (A4 height) gatefold issue with a groundview of the quaint Oak Tree Road ground and grandstand which dates from the 1930's. Marlow have been looking to relocate to a new ground in the Little Marlow area which sponsors North West Estates would construct and then redevelop Oak Tree Road for housing. However the proposed site is in the green belt and permission has always been refused.

This day in 1988 and to one of the more unusually named non-league grounds.

Stimpson's Piece is the home of Reepham Town and 25 years ago they hosted Horsford in an Anglian Combination fixture.

12 page programme is mostly advertising but, as it's free with entry, one can't complain.

This club nearly folded in 2005 - they had to get a point in their last game of the season to avoid relegation and their committee had already decided that, were this to happen, the club would be liquidated rather than drop yet another rung in the ladder. Thankfully, they got that point, things have improved markedly....and Stimpson's Piece remains on the football map!

1948 and a visit to Wallingford (which was then in Berkshire but is now in Oxfordshire) for a FA Cup tie which Maidenhead won 3-1. The attendance was 500 and the gate receipts £24. Eight page pocket size programme printed red on white.

67 years ago (1946) and a scarce programme for a Lancashire Senior Cup match between Blackpool and Liverpool.

A standard 4 page programme was produced.

This was a 1st leg tie which ended 2-2. Liverpool went on to win the 2nd leg 2-1 and eventually contested the final were they beat Bury 2-1 at Anfield.

October 3rd 1964, Pompey v Swansea.

Result 1-0, 12,699, Albie McCann the goalscorer

Most boring cover (no match details) which we had from 62/63 to 65/66...

So I have added a cartoon covering the match by 'Plum'...

Just 3 years ago and one of the great away days during our short time in the Premier League.

A 2-1 win for Blackpool away to Liverpool continued our good form at Anfield with only one defeat there since 1953.

And to make things even better we completed the double over them later in the season.

The programme was 84 pages and cost £3.

1953 and a visit to Faraday Road, Newbury for an Amateur Cup tie against the Metropolitan League side which the home side won 3-2. Four page programme printed black on old gold paper.

This day in.....well, I'm not very clear exactly what year this London Senior Cup fixture is from.

No hint in the 8 page programme, though it looks like it's from some point in the early/mid 60s.

Nice touch in the club notes where Mr.Henley, 107 Sturgess Avenue, Hendon, is thanked by the club for the "hours spent watering the pitch in the evenings". Thanks, too, to Bill, Dick and Eric who not only painted the grandstand but also marked the pitch out. It might have been a job too far for Eric as he was, at the end of the article, now referred to as "the late Eric".

The club's average gate for the season was listed as being 817 which would be considered very healthy nowadays for a club at that level.

Happy birthday!
Or, at least, the one hour that's left of it...
