1952 and a visit to Oxfordshire works side, Pressed Steel, for an Amateur Cup tie which Maidenhead won 4-2. Very rarely seen four page programme comprising of one single foolscap folded sheet, with the information duplicated in pink on white.

Normal 8 page programme with match report v Burnley Away the previous week...........att. 47,258 (great days for football)

The only advert is for the 'Empire', Finsbury Park for Joe Loss & his band..

Arsenal on their way to be champions that season (will they do it again 2013/14 ???)

66 years ago (1947) and a single sheet for a Central League fixture between Sheffield Wednesday reserves and Blackpool reserves.

The programme refers to the match being played on Wednesday Ground rather than Hillsborough which I find a little strange.

However, having quickly checked other Sheffield Wednesday v Blackpool reserve programmes, none of them refer to Hillsborough as the venue until the later 1950s.

Blackpool won the match 2-1.

Don't worry about it bispham, there are worst names for it.

65 years ago today, and a Yorkshire League Game between Scarborough and Sheffield United 'A' team.

This day in 1969 and a FA Cup tie between Fleetwood and Netherfield.

Very smart and informative 8 page programme issued at a cost of 6d.

Evocative advert included from Whiteheads the record shop in Lord Street who specialises in "pops and jazz"......looking this address up on Google Maps, I see the music has long since departed.

Sadly, though not unpredictably, it's now home to another of these salons where women go to get a fake tan.

Depressing....

1946 and a visit to the RAF stadium at Uxbridge for an F A Cup encounter which Uxbridge won 2-1. Six page gatefold programme issued printed red on white.

The first paragraph of the match report illustrates just how hard it is to eradicate incorrect facts from club histories once they have become established. Maidenhead didn't enter every F A Cup competition (they missed 1876/77 season) and it was only as recently as 1994 that the club discovered they were formed in 1870 not 1869.

45 years ago and 6th placed Derby travel to Ayresome Park to take on joint leaders Middlesbrough.

28,636 in attendance to watch a goalless draw.

16 page programme issued costing 1/-. Editorial notes that, at the previous home game against Charlton, Eric Morecambe was a guest of the club.

60 years ago (1953) and a friendly between Dundee United and Blackpool.

I am not sure how this particular friendly came about but Blackpool sent a full side and won the match 5-0.

An 8 page programme was issued.

Unusual kick-off time for a Monday.
Maybe it was a local Dundee holiday?

85 years ago (1928) and a 2nd Division fixture between Clapton Orient and Blackpool.

The match was played at Millfields Road ground which was Orient’s home until May 1930.

Orient played 421 games on this ground and Blackpool hold the record for the highest away win, 5-2 in the season before this.

This game ended 4-2 to Blackpool making it a happy hunting ground around that time.

An 8 page programme was produced consisting mainly of adverts.

Yes that is a strange kick-off time for a Monday game derby.

This is one of a number of queries that I will be checking out when I next visit the Central Library to look through some old evening papers.

This day 57 years ago and a Third Division (North) fixture between league leaders Hartlepools and 5th placed Derby.

A well-above-average gate of 12,072 saw the home side finish 2-1 winners.

The programme is as basic as they come, just 4 pages, which might explain why this one is so hard to find nowadays.

Note that the team manager's phone number is printed on the front cover - can't see clubs doing that nowadays.

It is not often you see the words 'league leaders' and 'Hartlepool(s)' in the same sentence.

Jeff Stelling would be very proud.

Did you see him yesterday when they scored the opening goal?

Phil Thompson was seriously not amused at being interrupted!
