65 years ago (1948) and over 30,000 witnessed a 1-1 draw between Blackpool and Derby County.

The programme was a standard 8 page issue.

The notes in the programme include reference to a cup tie in 1920 at Bloomfield Road which ended goalless. At the replay ‘hawkers’ were selling mock mourning cards with the words RIP Blackpool written inside a black border.

They shouldn’t have done that as Blackpool went on to win 4-1.

I wonder if any of these cards survive?

Thanks Bispham, yes, what these girls could do whilst bending over the handlebars takes some believing.

55 years ago and a Welsh League fixture between Llanelly and Pembroke Borough.

Informative 8 page programme issued which includes a full page article on the match against Tottenham in October 1922 to commemorate the opening of Steboneath Park.

Llanelly certainly had an active committee running the club - 15 members including, topically, 3 Supporter Club representatives.

Sadly, the club were wound up by HMRC in April 2013.

1930 and a visit to Layer Road, Colchester for a Spartan League Premier Division fixture won 4-3 by Maidenhead. Maidenhead eventually finished runners-up to Haywards (Enfield), Colchester finished 9th of 14. Four page programme printed black on bright pink paper.

The first paragraph of the match report:

The road to Wembley began for Maidenhead this day 67 years ago with a trip to the Denbigh Road ground of Hounslow Town. Maidenhead won 4-1 and were drawn away to Yiewsley in the next round.

101 years ago today, 7th September 1912.

A Dorset and District League fixture between Yeovil and Dorchester at the club's Pen Mill ground where they played before moving to Huish Park.

Very fragile 4 page programme issued - nothing to read other than the team line-ups in the centre pages. The remainder is all advertising. Some highly evocative ones, though, such as "mangles and wringers - cash or gradual payments" and one from Stroud the tailor who specialises in "gents breeches".

Note that ladies were not charged for admission to the match!

The original owner has pencilled in a score of 4-1 to the home side. Any confirmation of this would be appreciated.

1945 and a trip to Church Road, Hayes for a F A Cup tie, and an early exit following a 4-1 defeat. Single sheet issue.

The Church Road ground, like Hounslow's Denbigh Road, is no more, both were splendid traditional non-league grounds which were demolished and replaced with housing.

Blackpool’s smallest known programmes were issued during the 1945/6 season when paper was in short supply.

Measuring on average 14.3 cm in height by 11.1 cm across and consisting of just 4 pages.

This one is for a fixture against Blackburn Rovers a game which Blackpool won 5-2.

The same day Blackpool and Blackburn met, Derby visited Plymouth for a Football League (South) fixture.

16,953 saw the Rams win 4-0.

4 page programme. Lineups on p.2, club notes on p.3 and supporters' club notes on back page.

The club notes include the location of all 4 "public conveniences" within the ground. Only one was for the ladies, though, and that was located at the main entrance.

I knew paper was in short supply during the Second World War but didn't quite realise how vital recycling it was until I read this article in the Maidenhead Advertiser of January 1942. I now understand why, if "Waste paper salvage week" was replicated across the country, pre-war programmes are so scarce.

Interesting articles!
Was this the case in London or was the capital exempt?
Just crossed my mind that this may be why Arsenal/Spurs/Chelsea pre-wars are still so comparatively common.

66 years ago and a Lancashire Combination fixture at West View between Bacup Borough and Southport reserves.

Bacup had won the league the season before but 47/8 wasn't as successful as they ended 9th (though Southport finished bottom of the table).

4 page programme, club notes on p.2, line-ups on p.3 and fixture list on the back page along with an advert for the local cinema (the Regal).

Club notes ask youngsters to desist from encroaching onto the pitch behind the goals during the game as "our players are often afraid of hitting a ball goalwards and then finding it has injured a youngster".

69 years ago (1944) and a programme from a Football League North (1st Competition) fixture between Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers.

A 4 page programme similar in design to yesterday’s 45/6 example was issued but larger in size.

The programme notes that the ground had been loaned by kind permission of Air Commodore J.H. Simpson. This was because Bloomfield Road had been requisitioned by the Royal Air Force for the war years.

1949 and a Corinthian League Memorial Shield tie at York Road against Erith & Belvedere which the Kent side won 5-4. Eight page programme printed black on white.

And as a bonus, here's a aerial photo taken during that match, courtesy of Vince Taylor at "Groundtastic".

Maidenhead are actually kicking to the right but their supporters preferred to remain on the three more "popular" sides of the ground. The stand burnt down after an arson attack in December 1986 and has never been replaced, although the club hope to build a new stand on the railway side of the ground in 2014.

75 years ago (1938) and a 20 page programme for a Division 1 fixture between Blackpool and Aston Villa.

What a massive difference the programmes were in dimension, content and number of pages between pre-war seasons and those immediately following the war.

This season’s programme had lots of reading and facts and figures with a great cover.

Just under 30,000 witnessed a 4-2 win for Villa.

This day in 1955.

19,113 at Valley Parade to watch a 2-1 win for the home side.

8 page programme issued - club notes state that they hoped today's attendance would better the 12,500 at the Halifax game a week earlier. Certainly did.

Some evocative adverts contained within this one. Wrestling at the Windsor Hall featuring Masambula, "Kitchin's Komfy Koaches" operating out of Pudsey and, best of all, Hammonds chop sauce at 7d a bottle.

Chop sauce - is that still available?
