A rare 4 page programme for Blackpool’s pre-season friendly against Beeches in 1994.

Beeches who hail from St Helens currently play in the Warrington Premier League.

A young Blackpool side won 2-0.

20 years ago today and Torquay's visit to Dublin to play Cherry Orchard who had just won the Leinster Senior League title.

A decent 20 page issue costing £1 though I'm not sure if the description of Plainmoor as "a dark and bleak place where the wind drives the rain in neverending sheets as men in heavy boots, upturned collars and flat caps struggle up the hill to watch the game" would have gone down too well with the Gulls' hierarchy!

Probably written tongue-in-cheek, though Smile

Two today seeing as how I forgot to send anything over at the weekend.

21 years ago and a humble 4 page issue for Ellesmere Port Town's first ever game "after months organising a football club from scratch" as the programme editor writes.

This was the first of 7 friendlies the club had arranged over a 21 day period, other opposition including Chester, Wrexham and Southport.

A 3 match tour to Scotland was the highlight of the 2001/2 pre-season schedule which started off with this game against Ayr United at Somerset Park.

A 32 page programme was issued which also covered Ayr’s friendlies against Wigan Athletic and Dumbarton.

Blackpool won 2-0.

14 years ago and an impressive 16 page glossy issue for Newport's visit to Llanhilleth (which appears to be a village just outside Abertillery).

The home side had finished the previous season in 5th place in the 3rd division of the Gwent County League - the visitors were runners-up to Clevedon in the Dr Martens Lge Midland Division.

Following straight after Blackpool’s 1st team tour to Latvia in 2007, a Blackpool under 16 team took part in a tournament with 3 Latvian teams.

On this day they played Ceriba Ventspils.

A 4 page programme was issued.

12 months ago and a memorial match for Govilon's Terry "Chopper" Harris, a former player and latterly organiser of local football in the area who had died earlier in the year at the age of 70.

24 page issue for £1.50, plenty reading, most of it concerning the visitors and includes a 2 page article on Merthyr's short time in the Football League.

17 years ago today....July 25th 1996

Malaysia, today

Sarawak Select v Sheffield United

Manager Howard Kendall described Andy Walker's opening goal as 'Gerd Muller at his best'. Obviously Howard had been at the local ales.

26 years ago and a single sheet issue for Dunfermline's visit to The Dovecote to play Shepshed Charterhouse.

The home club's player-manager was Steve Powell, ex-Derby.

In 2003 Blackpool took part in the Isle of Man International Football Festival for the 2nd time.

On this day they played an Isle of Man X1 at the Ballacloan Stadium, home of Ramsey FC, the oldest club in the IOM Football League.

A tournament brochure was issued and different coloured teamsheets for each game.

A programme from the 1983 Honest Toun’s Association 5-a-side tournament for the John White Memorial Trophy.

This tournament started in 1957 and was played annually as part of festival week.

The trophy was awarded in memory of one of Musselburgh’s greatest sporting ‘sons’, the ex Tottenham 1960/1 double winning midfielder who died at the young age of 27 after being struck by lightning.

Blackpool were the only non Scottish side invited into this tournament and beat Stirling Albion and Meadowbank Thistle before losing to Hibernian in the final.

Hibernian had beaten Musselburgh Athletic and Raith Rovers.

The other 2 teams taking part were Celtic and Hearts.

A 4 page programme was issued.

28 years ago today and a Rangers XI visited the tiny island of Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides to take on North Uist FC who were members of the Uist and Barra FA.

Bit one-sided - our good friend Eck tells me that the 'Gers won this game by 13 goals to 1.

Decent enough 12 page programme which includes a couple of old photos of North Uist teams from the past and an intriguing advert placed by a Donald Johnson who, as well as being a civil engineer, also offered diving services and quarry master skills. A jack-of-all-trades can be very handy in isolated areas, I suppose....

28 years ago today and a nice drive up the A9 for the pre-merger Inverness Caledonian to the village of Lybster in Caithness.

The home team appear to be named after their main sponsor, the Portland Arms Hotel and were mid-table in the Caithness League.

4 page programme for 10p includes a quite detailed history on the home club so good value if only for that.

Billy Urquhart (ex-Rangers) in the Caley side.

1987 and a pre season friendly away to Atherstone United of the Beazer Homes League.

This appears to be a strange choice for a friendly with their being so many nearby Lancashire sides to play pre season but Blackpool were in their centenary year and Atherstone were also celebrating 100 years, so that is how the fixture came about.

An 8 page black and white programme was produced and apologies were given inside about the lack of a souvenir programme due to the editor being on holiday.

In 1995 Rovers played a friendly at Ryde Sports at their Smallbrook ground.
An A5 20 page programme was issued but I have never found out how much it cost.

19 years ago and the second of five games in Derby's pre-season Norwegian tour took then to Brumunddal, some 40 miles north of Oslo.

4 page programme has little in it other than advertising and a lineup page, though it does appear to be free.

Derby have always, for some reason, had a thriving Supporters Club branch in Norway. This was the second extensive tour of the country the club had undertaken, the previous one being back in the summer of 1981.
