Another odd programme that passed through my hands recently was this 16 pager for a 2011 friendly between Tadcaster Albion and York City.

I don't know much about Tadcaster but I do know they were once called John Smith's Football Club because the ground is situated behind the John Smith's brewery.

Hi Sharrowblade

Cardiff sent a team the the Foyle Cup on at least one occassion. Could you tell me whether they were they there for this tournament?

No mention of Cardiff in the squad lists in any age category.

The Mel Rees Memorial trophy

Cancer robbed Mel Rees of his life at the age of 26.

He was pitched straight into the team for a debut against Liverpool without meeting any of the players. But he was phenomenal and we won 2-0, Brian Deane scored both.

Despite making only nine appearances in United colours, Rees certainly made an impact on supporters - few players have made such a lasting impression in such a brief career at any club.

His performance at Goodison park, has been rated by supporters as one of the greatest displays by a blades keeper.

Top bloke and a Blades legend.

He led the teams out at wembley for the 1993 Semi final and received a standing ovation from both sets of supporters.

The game is still played annually.

Not so much "from history" as from 3 hours in the future.

Tonight's Europa Lge qualifier between Differdange (Luxembourg) and FC Laci (Albania) at the Stade Municipal.

Differdange won 1-0 in the first leg.

A superb trip to the Scottish Highlands in 2005 where Blackpool played 3 matches including this match against Keith at Kynoch Park.

This was arranged partly due to Colin Hendry (the Blackpool manager at that time) starting his career as a youth player with Keith.

Blackpool won the fixture 5-1 and the programme was a nicely produced 24 pager.

A 2008 friendly against near neighbours Fleetwood Town 4 years before the Cod Army achieved their goal of league status.

Blackpool won the game 2-1.

A 20 page programme was issued.

This day 12th July 2005..........8 years ago

Parkgate FC v Sheffield United

24 page programme, includes a brief history of both United and Parkgate.

This was Parkgate's opening pre-season friendly, and United fielded a mixture of mainly young reserves and Academy players. Utd ended up victors by 5-1.

Amongst the squad were Ian Ross (now at Boston United).

Jordan Robertson who was jailed for 2 1/2 years for causing death by dangerous driving and now plays his football in the Phillipines.

Luke Beckett, the former Stockport and Huddersfield striker) who is now at Goole.

Stephen Quinn (Now at Hull City)

and the prodigal son, Billy Sharp (now at Southampton).

The pre-season of 2009 saw Blackpool head to sunny Devon to take part in the South West Challenge Cup.

Although the highest ranked team in the tournament, Blackpool failed to progress to the semi final despite a 5-0 win in this opening fixture against Barnstaple Town played at Mill Road in Barnstaple.

It didn’t do them any harm though as at the end of the season Blackpool were promoted to the Premier League and returned to Devon the following pre-season when they won this tournament.

A 48 page full colour tournament programme was issued but there were no individual programmes except for the final.

I have also included the poster showing the fixtures.

A 24 page programme was issued for a friendly at Fleetwood Town in 2007 although the cover shows season 2006/7.

This friendly was arranged for the opening of a new stand at Highbury Avenue named after one of Fleetwood’s greatest players, Percy Ronson.

Blackpool won this fixture 3-0.

Blackpool travelled to Latvia in 2008 for their 3rd visit in as many years and played Skonto in the capital Riga for the second year running.

Like the previous year they conceded 4 goals but this time without reply.

A slim line 6 page fold out style programme was issued.

Looking at the 22 player squad listed in the programme only one player remains for the start of this coming season.

In 1998 Rovers travelled to Cadbury Heath (a suburb of bristol) for this friendly. I believe it was something like Ian holloway's father was running the Heath at the time. A 36 page, A5 programme was issued but I have no idea how much it cost.

A Blackpool X1 comprising mainly of youth team players lost 1-2 to Chorley in a 1996 friendly at Victory Park.

A basic 4 page programme was issued.

I remember this day well as it was my eldest son’s 1st away trip (he was 3 at the time) and at the end of a tiring day I had to carry him all the way from the ground back to the railway station. That taught me never again to take a 3 year old on an all dayer on the train. No

22 years ago and a very basic 4 page issue for York's visit to Boroughbridge.

Team lineups on pages 2 & 3, a list of the 8 (eight!) trophies the home team won in season 90/1 and that's your lot.

As the programme appears to be free with admission, can't complain, though.
