Man Utd ran out of steam second half because they only brought 3 substitutes Rangers had about 6. Ronny Johnsen is still as fit as a flea and scored the first goal. Albertz scored with a hammer,McCoist scored 2 then Alex Rae scored. I believe about 20,000 attended this charity match and a great effort by the 100 or so Man Utd fans who travelled up north to support this event.

And a few of us were straight back to Old Trafford for the under 21s game v liverpool!
To be fair a good welcome from some rangers fans we talked too(usually not the case due to off field incidents in 74 and the payback in 2003)and the outdated sense of united being celtic friendly..
Im glad i wasn't trying to stop albertz shot.... Shocked

It's that kind of commitment that makes football clubs great but not all great clubs are at the top or even in the major leagues.

Just going back to the Liverpool under 21s game. I don`t wish to be too critical but I always see these games as a sort of end of term exam for the up and coming youngsters especially with Headmaster Sir Alex and friend Sir Bobby being the obsrvers.

I wonder if Sir Alex after the game was left with similar thoughts to that of my own?...With this present crop, I don`t see future Manchester United players jumping out at me with the exception perhaps of Tunicliffe and perhaps another one or two others? I`m trying to be generous.

What with that game and United`s end of season fizzle out, I wonder if this has helped Sir Alex make up his mind.

Oh and before anyone jumps down my throat cross-legged, I think this 13th League title is Sir Alex`s greatest achievement given the challenge thrown at him by Man City last season.

It`s just that I don`t see much coming up from the reserves at least although the Youth as always looks promising but also I feel one or two 1st team players are either on their last legs or appear to be on there way out. Just my observations that`s all and perhaps Sir Alex`s as well. Sherlock

You can't always tell at that age because some of them have not completely developed physically.

Absoloutely true. I suppose I`m guilty sometimes of comparing them to the likes of Brian Kidd who at the tender age of 19 fearlessly faced and outplayed established world class stars.

Or George Best who at 17 just thought the game was just so effortless.

Perhaps there`s just too many distractions and expectations (especially from me lol ! ) as well nowadays for theses youngsters.

Just to add to my points (and sorry for sort of ambushing this thread)

What I was trying to get at was that perhaps with no obvious class of world beaters emerging from within the ranks, it could now certainly come down to hard cash.

Although United are the world`s most valued club, they possibly also have the most debts. I`m no expert on this and although they occasionally come up with the dosh for the likes of RVP etc, they always appear to be rather secretive regarding their spending power.

This observation can`t be fired at Man City or Chelsea (Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool etc?) who appear very brazen if not boastful of their seemingly endless pots of gold.

Perhaps it`s only a matter of time, depending on who owns who, before we see the likes of Man City or Chelsea for example dominating domestic and European football.

Is this also a contributary reason for Sir Alex Ferguson`s shock departure ?

One thing is for sure...it`s the end of an era.
