I sold all my West Brom stuff off in 1997 when I got married and have regreted it ever since. Started twice since, got a few hundred or so and sold them, couldn't face buying programmes I had once had again at the extortionate prices being asked by some, so knocked that on the head.

Started collecting Oldbury United and will carry on with that but now the club have folded it'll be only the odd thing I can pick up.

So now I have decided to collect programmes featuring Spanish clubs in England whether its friendlies or European Competitions. The hardest task is to try and find a list of games played so any help with that will be appreciated.

You can get details of all Spanish European ties in England from the Rothman's Yearbooks. Some of them have all the European games detailed.

Not too hard to find European fixtures between English and spanish clubs, e.g.

Go to http://www.linguasport.com/
Click on international -> club competitions -> Searchable database

Put ENGLAND in one of the country fields and SPAIN in the other.

You can find all (and I do mean ALL!) Real Madrid results here, you'll need to trawl through season by season though.

Everton are due to play Malaga in August in a friendly at Goodison.

We have also played the following Spanish teams in friendlies all at Goodison in the past few years.

12th Aug 2006 - Athletic Bilbao
7th Aug 2004 - Real Sociedad
10th Aug 2002 - Athletic Bilbao
13th Aug 2001 - Espanyol

We're supposed to be playing Almeria in August, and also played a home friendly against Levante in 2007.

Wednesday played Barcelona in the old Fairs cup in March 62.

Comes up now and again for around £8-£10.

If you ever come across the return at the Nou Camp, give us a shout! Shocked

Everton v Spanish teams - all time:

1 Real Zaragoza (Spain) Wed Nov 23 1966 ECWC
2 Ath Bilbao (Spain) Tue Apr 4 1989 Test (Kevin Ratcliffe)
3 Espanyol (Spain) Aug 2001 Test (Alex Young)
4 Ath Bilbao (Spain) Sat Aug 10 2002 Test (David Unsworth)
5 Real Sociedad (Spain) Sat Aug 7 2004 Friendly
6 Villarreal (Spain) Tue Aug 9 2005 EC(Q)
7 Ath Bilbao (Spain) Sat Aug 12 2006 Test (Howard Kendall)
8 Barcelona (Former Players match) Wed Mar 28 2007
9 Malaga - to be played

Try also some of those databases that have European games listed - as stated above. Then I guess you need to ask different fans about who their teams have played in friendlies. Everton have played a few in Spain but to get those you'll be bumping your gums for a long time I guess.

If you don't mind me asking, why Spanish clubs? Just seems a bit random, unless you're Spanish!!

There is a list in the 2005/06 Bolton v Seville Uefa Cup prog of every match Spanish teams had played in England and Wales in European competitions.

According to the list West Brom's only Spanish visitors were Valencia.

Leicester City have played Athletico Madrid twice in Europe once in the Cup-Winners Cup and once in the UEFA Cup.
They have also played Athletico Bilbao in a Friendly (1st ever game at the Walkers Stadium). We have also played Barcelona at the Walkers in a pre-season Friendly and are also due to play Real Valladolid this season in a Friendly. If you require dates etc let me know, progs were produced for all games.

Cheers for the replies, some helpful things there.

Paulo, sorry mate, thanks but brought it off ebay earlier today.

Foxes1 - yes please mate

CTFC - Yes please

ForestMick - I just fancied something different and have had a keen interest in Spanish football for a while. Got fed up of seeing the same Albion programmes popping up and just couldn't bring myself to buy them all again.

Barrett - yeah, I am hoping to go to Goodison if I can make it. Malaga are the team I have always followed in Spain as it was the first place I went to. They play in blue and white like the Baggies (although the new shirt is more Argentina blue for some reason), had a look round the shop and ground last time I went. If i'd known about it I would have gone a few weeks later, around 25th July when they hopefully beat Villa but never mind.

seand - thanks for that link.

If anyone does pick up any programmes from the friendlies to come, please let me know.

I think the tickets for the Malaga game are about £10 to non-season ticket holders mate.

If you can't make it, let me know and I'll pick you a programme up.

Being from West Brom you might not want this, but Wolves have a game against Real Valladoloid in early August. Its only down the road if you want to see some decent football Laughing
If you can't bring yourself to do it, I'll pick you up a programme and you can have it at face value + post no probs.

Hi,

The following are Middlesbrough friendlies v Spanish clubs in England.

9/8/92 REAL SOCIEDAD @ Newcastle in a tournament
28/3/99 ATLETICO MADRID
5/8/01 ATHLETICO BILBAO
7/8/02 ALAVES
4/8/04 REAL MALLORCA
3/8/05 ATLETICO MADRID Joint programme with Espanyol
7/8/05 ESPANYOL Joint programme with Atletico Madrid

Programmes were produced for all these games, the one at Newcastle is more of a brochure covering the tournament. We've played a few away friendlies v Spanish teams over the years as well, including Real Madrid.

Our pre-season this year includes games @ Dumbarton and Macclesfield. I think they call it the credit crunch Sad

Good luck in your collecting venture.

Rocky
