Thanks Seand.
Suggest that 40A sits between 401 and 402.
But looking at the back end dates of the 1969/70 season, I can't yet see which numbers 40 D sits between as I don't know the date / number sequence at that time. |

I have a record of what reviews were included in Blackpool home programmes and it does show that 40A sits between 401 and 402.
Regarding 40D I can only say it was issued in the programme dated 28/3/70 which was after 432 and before 434. |

Two more Liverpool issues....
21/3/70 v Everton = 432 (Sat)
24/3/70 v Ipswich = 433 (Tue)
So it looks like 40D is between 433 and 434!

Thanks to everyone who helped with the Liverpool images in that thread. I'll post that article on here when it's done.
In the meantime, some thoughts on England's World Cup exit. has felt like we were back at Wembley 7 years ago when Steve McClaren tried to keep dry!

The latest brief guide post on the website is the history of GOAL magazine which I collected and read obsessively from issue #1 right through to issue #296 after which it merged with SHOOT in the summer of 1974.
What amazes me looking back is the amount of content in each issue.
I contrast this with the WC edition of 4-4-2 which I bought a few weeks back, which was all graphics and photographs with the typed content in tiny print almost hidden between images.
After a few pages, I got fed up with all the visual overload and put it down.
Hope this brings back some good memories for people;

PS The Liverpool football programme brief guide is under construction now and I'll post it when complete including some of the images people helped with above. Thanks again to everyone concerned.

I've now finished the latest post on the website which is the brief guide to Liverpool football programmes.
Thanks again to those who have provided visuals for the post, especially Bazzabaggies and Pompeypete (have referenced / noted the help).
One of the reasons for starting the site and writing the posts was an absence of available content on the topics in question. But that also means that some of what I write is inevitably a bit sketchy.
So, as ever, if anyone can add anything to the story, please let me know.
Thanks in advance for any views;

The latest post on the website is a cricket one.
It's a look back at the 1964 season (one in which I went to live cricket for the first time) through the prism of a lovely book called Summer of '64: A Season in English Cricket by Andrew Hignell.
As ever, thanks in advance for any views;

Thanks for the lengthy and detailed Liverpool programme article!
One other phenomenon worth mentioning was that Liverpool gave away free somewhat edited versions of the programme with the club magazine during 95-6. Clearly they're not really 'programmes' as such as they weren't available at the match, but they certainly look like the real deal. Some info here:

My old Liverpool University football team mate Dr Phil Stevens will be doing a book signing for his new book, a biography of former West Ham United and Ipswich Town manager, John Lyall at the Newham Bookshop from 1.30pm this Saturday 29th November before the West Ham United v Newcastle United match.
Details are here on Goals and Wickets.
As usual, thanks for any views;

The latest brief guide post on the Goals and Wickets website is on FA Cup Final programmes.
This subject is a big one and although the post below is a long one, I am really regarding it as a starting point as much as a finishing point on the subject.
For example, I am aware that the issue of variations is a complex one and has been covered by Football Programme Monthly on more than one occasion, so for anyone who doesn't know about variations, the role of the post is to raise their awareness that these exists, not to educate them in all of the detail, at this stage anyway.
As always, any comments are most welcome.
Thanks for any views in advance;

Happy New Year everyone.
The latest post on the Goals and Wickets website is a cricket one, another brief guide, this time on Findon's Cricket Annual published between 1947 and 1950.
If anyone knows what happened to Findon Publications Ltd, who also published Findon's Football Handbook during these years, please let me know. I'll include any new information in the post and reference the person who provided the information.
Findons are like the Marie Celeste of sports annual publishing: here one minute and gone the next.
The annuals provide a nice snapshot of cricket (and football) in the immediate post war years.
Interestingly all 4 cricket annuals include articles about the players who plied their trade in both pro cricket and pro football, a practice which just doesn't exist anymore.
On the football side of the site, when I get to it, I'll write a similar post on the Findon's Football Handbook.
This may take a while to get to, as there were so many annuals in both sports which began their lives in this post war era, many more so in football than in cricket.
As always, thanks in advance for any site visits / views;
