Following on from Tynie's excellent showcase thread, I thought I might extend this into a Programme from this day in history. It doesn't have to be old, rare, or valuable. Maybe its got great artwork, or a story or maybe its just sentimental. Any country, any competition, any level.

Please feel to add one yourselves, and maybe tell us a little bit about it. Doesn't have to be your team, just a programme in your collection.

I'm going to see if we can get at least one image per day:

So here goes:

63 years Ago: February 1st, 1950 FA Cup 4th Rd Replay:

A typical United gatefold programme from this season costing Two Pence. Harold Brook scored a hat-trick for United and still ended up on the losing side. Wolves, the Cup holders were worthy winners with the Jimmy Hancocks scoring two penalties. The game finished 4-3 to the visitors.
The pitch itself was Icy with a good three inches of snow on top. Defeat was not unexpected Wolves were to finish runners up in the League that season whilst United suffered heartbreak on the last day of the season in their quest for promotion, but that's another programme for another day.

I only ever made one visit to The Valley during the days when it had that massive bank of terracing - so what I like about this issue is the photograph on the front cover.
It was also an away issue from that season which, for some reason, I had a lot of difficulty finding. Not usually the case with Charlton programmes.

For the record, we lost 2-0 in front of 16,901 fans.

Bit short on the ground for today, I'm sure someone's got a better programme cover for Feb 2nd.

12 years ago Today: Feb 2nd 1991

Rock bottom United thump the Saints 4-1 on a foggy afternoon at the Lane to move off the bottom of the table for the first time since August. The damage was don in the first half hour.

Articles include All our yesterdays featuring the 1973 game against the Saints and a feature on united's wandering full back David Barnes. Dennis Clareborough had an article 'Looking Back' which remembered a couple of United leading goalscorers from the early 30s jimmy Dunne and Bill Boyd.

Cover depicts Peter reid and Dave Bassett along with one of the stars of that Kit kat advert Smile

Adverts included Top Man, the shop where all top division players shopped.

Cover Price: £1
Today's value: 50p max

After one ultimately unsuccessful attempt to escape the Third Division (North) in 55/6, Derby were, by February 1957, locked in a three way tie at the top of the table with Hartlepools and, the visitors to the Baseball Ground on Feb 2nd, Workington.
With only one promotion place on offer, this was as big a game at the BBG in a while and the gate of 25,306 - bigger than many in the old first division days - reflected this.
Bit of a let-down in the end, though, as, despite goals from Ray Straw and Dennis Woodhead, it was unfashionable Workington who took both points in a 3-2 win, sending them level on points with Derby, both sides 1 point behind leaders Hartlepools.......

Same cover for the whole season for Grantham during the 1973/74 season. On this day we played Scarborough at home in the FA Trophy. Grantham winning 3-0. In front of an impressive 2959

We qualified for the European Cup Winners Cup for the first time in 1964-65. In qualifying for the quarter finals we beat Sporting Club de Portugal over 2 legs, winning in Lisbon and drawing the home leg. Sporting Club had hammered Manchester United a few months before on their way to winning the ECWC in 1963-64.

We drew 2-2 at Real Zaragoza and after the previous round were confident of moving through to the semi-finals, but it wasn't to be, we lost 0-1.

My programme is abit tatty these days, but it's the one I bought at the game, as a 13 year old - an amazing 48 years ago!!!

Great thread, but the high level of squinty scanning is shocking Laughing

Back to 1962 and an atypical middle of the table match.
Preston (11th) 1 Derby (9th) 0
Watched by 12,125 hardy souls.

Back 45 years now:
This one still a mid-table battle but a tad more exciting.
Cardiff prevailing 4-3 in front of 18,096 spectators to leap above Derby in the table to 13th.

Four days later Derby met Leeds in the League Cup semi/final....nowadays, I suppose, they'd "rotate the squad" to prioritise the cup game but not back then.

Not a particularly exciting one, but anyway ...

On this day in 1995/96, Boro secured a 4-1 win over Runcorn on their way to winning the Conference title. Included a hat-trick from Barry Hayles who later went on to play for Fulham & Bristol Rovers among others.

Here's my offering for today 3rd February:

51 years Ago: 1962 Bedfordshire Senior Cup Quarter Final

Biggleswade Town v Ampthill Town

Triple page gatefold programme cover price 3d containing club notes and a load of adverts, which sadly none mention prices of the day.

Nice example of an early 60s non league programme

Biggleswade went onto take the trophy.

The Goole Town programme from this day in 1950 is from a West Riding County Cup versus Thorne Colliery.

This cover was used for a few years by Goole in the early 1950s. The buildings at the back of the footballer are known locally as the "Salt and Pepper Pot" - the round water tower when built in 1927 was the largest water tower in Europe. The old brick disused water tower on the right was built in 1885. The newer tower is a Grade II listed building

I do like that one Barnsley, minimilistic like Tony Hancock in The Artist.

Here's my offering for the day: 49 years ago 4th Feb 1964

Sheffield United U23s v England Youth XI

Basic 4 page reserve type programme of United's throughout the late 50s and all of the 60s. Cover price 2d.

United included the two 'Alans', Woodward and Birchenall.

The England Youth Team featured Howard Kendall, John Hollins, Don Rogers, and Ron Springett.

As with all youth team programmes perhaps the interesting aspect is what happened to the rest.

Micky Wright, Villa, never played a senior game, due to a serious injury,

Barrie Wright, leeds. England Youth team Captain. Played a handful of games for Leeds before moving to America. returned to play for Brighton before retiring at 25, disillusioned with the game. became a warehouseman.

Tony wood, Manchester City - Unknown

Brian Bromley, Bolton, Made over 300 league appearances and later moved to Portsmouth for 25,000. died last year

John Sissons, West ham, Three months later became the youngest player to score in the Fa Cup final, Made 200 appearances for West ham before joing Sheff Wendy. Now a very successful businessman in South Africa

Martin Britt, West ham, Played 20 times for the Hammers before falling out with Ron Greewood. He had suffered an injury ground accident where he suffered cruciate ligament damage. He couldn't jump and had to play mainly with his left leg, but he still managed to be transferred to Blackburn in 1968 for £25,000.
After a handful of games Britt had an exploratory operation which revealed he had a broken knee. He would never play again and the two clubs fell out with Blackburn accusing West ham of 'ripping them off' by not revealing the true facts.

West Ham accused of not being truthful.
Surely not! Laughing Laughing

Peter Houseman and Tony Brown were reserves
