I have met a number of fellow forum members (do we have any female ones?) and have made friends with a small number who share similar outlooks, philosophies, or - it has to said - real ale!
It made me think, what else do others do on here in their spare time, if they have any?
To start the ball rolling, I adore cooking (to a very good level) real ale quaffing, politics and all it involves from a Socialist viewpoint, collecting decent football books especially club histories, and as a silver surfer indulging myself on the internet - mainly football related, absolutely nothing seedy!
Anyone else? |

Football stats is one of my main hobbies (quite apparent from my signature). It's obviously helped by my large collection of football programmes in the 'shed' Also a decent collection of football books
Watch Grantham home and away and haven't missed a league game away from home since 1997
PS3 Gamer, mainly open world games like Saints Rown and GTA, also PES and Fifa _________________ www.programmehut.com - The Internet Dealers

I am a committed Christian and thirty five years ago accepted Jesus Christ into my life to be my saviour after a life changing experance.
Apart from the love of my life being the Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club i am an avid gardener and for the last thirty years + have tended the graveyard at my local Church on a volentary basis(hence the photo above), and know that i have taken early retirement from working for the same firm for forty five years it takes up much of my spare time.
I also helped run an open/age football team at Church for some sixteen years who were quite succesfull localy and nationaly.
I am a family man with six children and three grandchildren ( five Evertonian S.T.H. & one Liverpool fan ( still trying to fathem out what went wrong there ?).So you can se i dont have much "spare time" .
I also have song in several Christian produtions all over the country until recently, and just love collecting all things relating to my alltime footballing hero the late Derek Dougan. _________________ "Some people say Wolves best days are gone i prefer to think the best are yet to come" Derek Dougan on joining Wolves from Leicester City 1967. |

Well... Monday to Friday I work in IT for a brokerage company up in the big city...
I play pool a couple of times a week in local leagues and also represent the league at inter-league level, been to the nationals with my local league... That was a very very very good weekend!!
I occasionally go to the gym, need to go a lot more, enjoy both cardio and strength training.... the body does not show this.
Love eating out, which probably explains the above.
In fairness, most of my time is taken up with work, pool, programmes and the misses!! _________________ Nuts and Bolts Web Design

Apart from my football collecting pastime, mainly Leeds Utd, I do a bit of wheeling & dealing in footy memorabilia to fund my own collection.
Now retired after a career in the military and living in beautiful East Devon I enjoy walking the dog locally twice a day also on the South West Coast Path and the local beaches.
I also enjoy a bit of decorating as required, gardening and travel with a daughter in London and another doing a masters degree in the USA.
A also give a couple of days a week to an organisation called SSAFA Forces Help (ex-military charity) as a volunteer caseworker.
Finally, enjoy my wife's excellent cooking and company |

Last year, accepted the role of Manager and Coach of our local junior football Club U7s team. This could have been seen as a touch of insanity, and you may be right, but I'd thought I'd try to give them a better experience than I had when i was young.
Mon to fri - Work
Monday Evenings - Athletics training at Don Valley Stadium, Not me my nine year old
Tuesday evening - Football training at Sheffield United Academy, Not me my 7 year old
Wednesday Evening - Last year, I would have been at Stocksbridge, for Manchester United Training, but with Danny's United training going to twice a week, had to knock this on the head. So now we do nothing on a wednesday. The night of rest and relaxtion, and hopefully a beer and some footy on the telly.
Thursday Evening - Football training at sheffield United Academy
Friday Evening - Football training with my side
Saturday Morning - One of three. Football Match, we play our home games on saturday morning, if we are away, then Danny will play at the Academy. Once a month McKenzie runs for School in cross country.
Watch United if at home in the afternoon, or someone local if possible.
Sunday Morning/Afternoon - My side will have a match if we are away. If not, I may go and watch another one of our local clubs junior sides. They do have a good bar
Also, have been in charge of our local golf Society for the past 10 years, so play once a month if possible.
About 10 years ago used to cycle a lot, in various parts of the country, from the Cotswolds to the Sussex Downs, from norfolk to Cannock chase, but not since I somersaulted over a stone wall in Derbyshire doing 40 miles an hour and smashed the bike up.
Apart from that, like to getaway to Costa del Cleethorpes regularly, where the Caravan lives.
Not much time for owt else! _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/sharrowblade/sets

Despite working 5 days a week I still manage to get to a few auctions although some are at the weekends. Some of both mine and the better half's spare time is now taken up by looking after our 2 grandchildren aged 2 and 9 months will eventually be taking them down to the King Power stadium to hopefully get them interested in football. |

Work a shift pattern which means I get a week off every 4th week. This means I get roped into doing a lot for the kids school where the wife works.
Off to Grimsby with Y2 tomorrow and Meadowhall with reception on Thursday!
I'm chair of the parent group so always running round picking up stuff we can flog or use. Yesterday it was 500 books to sell at Christmas fair.
The meter on Dad's cab is always ticking over as we've got Gymnastics, Rainbows, acting and drama club between the 2 of them! Eldest has not hinted at junior football and cricket for next season!
Rest of my time is spent at work , getting called into work to cover or walking Stan the dog! _________________ 26th December 1979

Very keen cyclist and father of one 3 year old girl who takes up most of my spare time. Season ticket holder at Carrow Road, but that is really the only football I watch these days (apart from when on the quest for the 92 - 8 to go). I watch much more NFL these days. Still love music as well, although I stopped going to gigs when I moved from London back to Norwich.
Not a big collector these days but I am a regular on here as its one of only a few boards that people are decent to each other and there dont seem to be the usual three or four who think they run it!

As well as being a lifelong supporter of Manchester United since the early 50s ,I am an amateur Musicians playing Guitar ,Banjo, and dabble a bit on a Yamaha keyboard. In the early 60s I was in a local Group playing clubs ,church halls etc ,but it interfered with my football, and left it alone after 2 years. Was a class 3 referee for 12 years ,in local Sunday leagues,Still got a necessary thick skin after my exploits in the Black uniform. Was a member of the Cheshire FA.I have also had a lifelong enthusiasm for Railways, and with being retired have visited Stirling ,Edinburgh,Southend,Bristol ,all by train in the last 2 years.Have a good collection of United Programmes ,and memorabilia ,but in the Conference league of collecting ,compared to fellow Reds Manchesterunitedman & Treble 1999,Premier League + ,collectors whose collections I admire greatly.Trying to keep fit even @the age of 70 ,and have a minor workout @the local gym.Managed somehow to lose 2 stones in weight by a less than 2000 calories per day diet.Started this 2 months ago on doctors advice ,and am now 17 and a half stones,I am 6 ft 2 " so its not so bad .Still go to United home games, and a season ticket holder since 1965.Never really have a dull moment, and thats good I suppose! |

I work full time for a company who supply material for the maintenance and construction of the rail infrastructure. Customers from Network Rail all the way down to little heritage railways.
I suspect that my collecting may take a bit of a back seat over the next year. I'm getting married next July and I'm moving down to the West Midlands to live with my fiancee. So over the next 12 months I'll be organising a wedding, buying a house and finding a new job - it's going to be busy! _________________ |

I took early retirement in 1999 after 32 years working for Barclays (no I am not a fat cat!).
Since retirement I started doing a bit of buying and selling of football programmes. I love the buzz of auctions and attend local auctions regularly. Over time I have branched out into other sports and other forms of collecting.
I also enjoy family history and traced my Mother's family back to 1692. Then I started on my wife's lot and, unknown to them, I found that her father's family had a good go at populating Australia. Also her grandfather's brother legged it to America and became a bigamist as he already had a family here!
Over the last few years I have been researching my late Uncle's life as he was connected to Portsmouth F C for most of his life. The aim was to publish a book in his memory but the publisher's I approached with a rough draft did not feel there was enough "meat" - he was a good guy but if he had been one of life's rebels they would have been more interested. So the aim this winter is to find out how to create and upload it all to a website in his memory.
Most Saturdays I go to watch a local Rugby Union match - Macclesfield when they are at home and, if not, another local team. The fact I can leave home at 1430, drive straight in the car park, pick up a pie and a pint and sit down just as the teams are running out onto the pitch appeals to me.
As far as collecting goes I collect 1950's Christmas Day programmes. I recently started to collect all Pompey's home programmes from 1952 to 1958 - about 30% there so far, and I also collect Club histories - nudging up to 100.
No children but the dog needs walking every day. I enjoy cooking, there are always jobs to do in the garden and around the house and I get involved with a few bits and pieces around the village.
That's me! |

Whoop Whoop Wullie
After going out to a party aged 16 and returning 20 years older, i had to retire due to health reasons.
Chasing Big jobs all over the Uk and Europe, to pay for my expensive lifestyle of Alcoholism and Cocaine addiction was killing me.
Like many Addicts, i have other traits which raise their ugly heads. OCD to a small degree and Collecting.
So when you retire from a "Life of Hell" the other traits take over and in my case Collecting.
But i need MONEY to provide for my Collecting Addiction.........What was i to do........Give back ya fat Bristolian twat.
And so these days, i work for a charity........I help run a Hostel in Cambridge for "Homeless Alcoholics". Entrenched Street Drinkers who have wandered our by-ways all their life, the Totally Excluded, who due to their behavior are Banned from evrywhere else. No Young pups who have had a "Bloody row with their parents a couple of weeks ago", These Boys are Hard core.
Would not change my job for anything.........I work between 50 - 70 hours a week. Three of us cover every minute of every day of the year.
I dont do exercise, i live on a diet of Caffiene, Nicotine, stress, lack of sleep and Madness.
Wembley bound most England games.
All i ask is too put a smile on my Boys faces everyday. _________________ MY COLLECTION ON FLICKR

Just reading about the active lives led here make me feel exhausted.
After 25 years of being a boring accountant (though I prefer the word book-keeper), I thought I'd try + branch out a bit and did an honours degree in Business Management in my spare time. Met a musically-minded lady on a footy trip down south, gave up the job, sort of semi-moved down to England, we set up a record/collectibles shop together (I always wanted one) and then, well, let's just say you can never tell with people, however well you think you know them.
So now I find myself back in Aberdeen, just me and my collections, with a degree but without a job. And a lot of spare time. Ho hum.
Ah, the collections.........apart from programmes, been collecting records for just as long. Any Beatle vinyl from anywhere in the world, anything psychedelic 1966-1970. Got 11 feet of shelf space devoted to Beatles alone.
Also got a nice collection of "true crime" books from 1900 to date - classic cases like Jack the Ripper (it was that Polish barber!)& Lizzie Borden all the way down to obscurities long forgotten by the media.
Anything at all to do with Tony Hancock, too. Got all the radio & TV shows still in existence and a load of other memorabilia.
The man was a genius.
Been thinking about trading full-time on EBay but I fear I'd hate to part with the good stuff.........so I reckon it's keep on job-hunting for the time being.
Funny old life, isn't it? _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

I drive various sizes of mobile cranes for a large national Crane Hire company. I am also an AP (Appointed Person), which is somebody who goes onto a site, looks at a job, plans it for a particular crane, does all the paperwork and then supervises the job when it needs doing. |

By day - work in a payroll department. Enjoy the role but hate where i'm currently working. Been looking for a new one for most of this year but there's not a lot out there at the moment! Just grateful to be in a job.
Earlier this year moved in with my girlfriend, been together just over a year now. Things are going well on that front.
I'm a Wednesday fan but I hardly ever go now. I go to most England games (home and away) so that eats up a fair bit of cash. Like to try and see the place we're playing in too, so it eats up most of my holidays too. Had 5 nights away in Bucharest & Chisinau last month, and four nights in Warsaw in a couple of weeks. This is where my girlfriend comes back into things as this will be her first England trip
Also you might have noticed that i'm a big Rugby League fan, my beloved Sheffield Eagles have just won the Championship (equivalent to the football Championship). Follow them home and away so that's most Sundays between February and September sorted.
Saturdays i'm usually at some sort of game, Stocksbridge Park Steels in the winter and Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks (Rugby League) in the summer, and if it's neither of them then me and a mate usually find one at a ground we've never visited before, he's already lined up trips to Lincoln, Alfreton, Hyde and Bridlington in the next few months. I prefer this to the over stewarded, over policed league football.
Like grantham i'm a cider drinker, like a vodka too (neither with ice!!) - what's your tipple of choice? Not a 'real' cider but i'm enjoying Stowford Press at the moment and the Stowford Press export at 6% is good too. Also currently working my way through a bottle of Snow Queen vodka from Kazakhstan.
Weekday evenings I sit down for a rest...usually to watch football/rugby/cricket/NFL...but if my better half has the remote then i'll listen to some music...which reminds me, does anyone else use the Last FM plug in? _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/eagleowlprogrammes/ |
