Post subject: Car Boot Bargains. |
|
|
I picked up a collection at a local car boot sale, the majority are just run of the mill items but there are a couple of programmes that I think are collectable;
Swansea Town v Slavia Sofia ECWC 1966.
B1903 v Celtic EC 1971.
Athlone Town v AC Milan UEFA 1975
CA Spora v Leeds United FAIRS 1967.
Red Star v Wolves EC 1959.
Any valuations would be appreciated.
If anybody has any collectable Everton stuff then I may be prepared to swap.
Thanks a lot. |

Hi mate,
Are you sitting down.........................?
The CS Spora v Leeds programme is on Michael Hewitt's offer list for 300 quid, he is the leading Leeds dealer.
I would recommend you contact him on 01977 6431077 or 07860 192787.
His copy is 4 pages, guessing yours is too?
I would love a copy but cannot compete with what Michael can/will offer you, if you let me know what he offers will see if I can match or better it (somewhat doubt it though), not sure what his Everton stock is like.
Keep me informed....
PS lucky Sod, where was the bootfair? _________________ Nuts and Bolts Web Design

I thought picking up the 98/9 Man Utd v Spurs programme (normally £70 ish) for 10p at the Bolton fair a few years back was good but that takes some beating! _________________ Regards,

I've had a few bargains from car boot sales.
Manchester United v Bayern Munich 1999 Champions League Final - £1
Manchester United v Liverpool 1996 FA Cup Final - 50p
My best bargain though was a boxful of 1960s Burnley home programmes for £3! That's what really kickstarted my collection! |

I bought Burnley-Spurs CC Semi and Man City-Hamburg UEFA QF yesterday for a £1 each.. for one of those Antique shops..
City programme (for this fixture) was rather good, glossy cover, semi-rigid booklet form as opposed to standard MatchDay programme material - a bit like those exclusive magazines you get from smart Car Salerooms or places like Mont Blanc shops.. if you get my drift. |

well done on the bargains
Red star v wolves would have gone for approximately £50-£70 a few years ago but in the current climate?????
My best buy was 10p for Reading v Sunderland fa cup run from the 70s which is valued at £30 ish and my dad inadvertently paid £5 at an antiques fair for the Real Madrid Chelsea cup winners cup final programme and nearly fainted when I told him what it was worth.A few years ago I also nearly passed out when an old fella at a fair said he had an old programme behind his stall, it turned out to be the 1928 fa cup final programme, I paid £130 for it and went home very happy! |

I picked up an Olympiakos handbook from a fair at Donnington for 0.50p, sold it on Ebay for £95, to somebody in London.
Also picked up a job lot of England progs for £40 at auction and sold one of them 3 weeks later in another auction for £360. |

And I thought I did well buying 10 Man Utd 1950's for £5 this week!
Well done you lot, it's given me the urge to get bargain hunting again, maybe just maybe there's an Arsenal 1890 programme somewhere for 20p. _________________ "We have a problem with Sol Campbell" Arsene Wenger. 04/02/06 |

Hi,
Thanks very much, its just as well I was sitting down
Yes it is a 4 page issue in excellent condition. Thank so much for the advice. I will contact Michael and see what he can offer.
The boot sale was held in West Kirby and the seller seemed to have lots of 60' & 70's items, generally Everton & Liverpool plus some Tranmere Rovers. But there also seemed to be quite a number of European match programmes too. The guy only wanted what he asked for and when I tried to tell him they were worth far more than he was asking, he just shrugged his shoulders and said "Well if you dont want them at that price, I'll sell them to somebody who does !!!" I wasnt about to look a gift horse in the mouth. Obviously I had no idea that one of the items was worth so much being an Everton collector !! |

So if I hadn't been frigged about on my house sale I might have been living around there and got there before you! |

I have picked up about 3 lots from Charity shops, inc a complete season of Leicester progs from 1998/98 in binders with a lot of them sgined. Inc amongst them was a treble season Leic v Man Utd which I got more for that prog then the whole lot cost.
Also picked up a box of about 200 the other month, with tickets included.
Charity shops I find are also good for picking replica shirts up in |

The charity shops near me seem to have wised up regards football programmes in the last year or two and are putting older ones on ebay.I even saw Oxfam in Manchester asking £7 for the Alan Shearer testimonial programme which was more than dealers had it.
In the last year i've picked up Breedons Complete histories for Man Utd,Bury,Man City,Everton,Bolton and Celtic though. The Celtic one i didn't keep and got £59 for it on ebay.
A few years ago i paid £15 from a charity shop for a bundle of about 100 1960s Bury homes which included about 20 single sheet first team/reserves matches. One of them i only discovered was rare a few weeks ago.Bury v Plymouth in the 64/65 League Cup.That sold for over £60 on ebay and is my best buy from a charity shop. |

I always have a look when in a different town/place. To be honest, it's very rare that I find programmes in charity shops these days. A lot of them have cottoned on to the potential price of books etc and tend to have specialist book shops or send anything of interest off to dealers to sell on their behalf. |

I never have any luck at car boot sales. In fact when i see the odd programme the seller seems to think they have something ultra rare and want £15 for a run of the mill 60s item |
