As is my wont, I put in my usual 100 plus bids on ebay last week, and was successful with about 15 or 16 of them. They're only bought for selling on purposes so there's simply no point in me paying anything over the odds for items.
Anyway, I noticed one if the Scottish 1950's section, Berwick vs Stranraer 1955-56 League Cup, and put in a bid of up to about £8 if my memory serves me well. Got it eventually for £5.60, so why did I think this a good buy at that price?
Both Berwick and Stranraer were admitted into the Scottish League "C" Division in 1950-1. At that time the league also had the reserve teams of the likes of Hearts and Hibs, so the matches weren't first class. They were both accepted into the Scottish League 2nd division in the 1955-56 season, theoretically making it their first season as a league club despite being in the "C" division for the previous 5 years.
In those days, the League Cup was always a tournament played prior to the league games. Upon looking inside the programme, I see that Berwick had played one practice game, and 2 friendlies before getting down to the real McCoy against Stranraer. I hadn't known for sure that it was the first ever game as league clubs for both teams, and couldn't be bothered to do fairly simple research, but given it was the League Cup, there was always going to be a chance it was.
Programmes of both clubs are very collectable from this season, and I think this one will eventually see a decent whack of a profit when sold on.

Clap well done, and a good read! Am sure you'll get a tidy profit for that one.
