I've a few of these but mainly the green ones.
Tickets from this era were created using a system called "offset printing" or lith printing as its sometimes called.
The best way to tell is to look at the front of the ticket any writing in black should be crisp and sharp.
This ticket dows not have seat numbers as its a a standing area ticket but if it was a seating area then the seat numbers would have been rubber stamped on after the original printing.
Where it says "enter at turnstiles" the postition og this varied only slightly depending on the block letter that followed after.
Remember that in those days to change the block letter involved removing a whole line of "print set" and then reseting it to say exactly the same thing with just the block letter changed.
This is why the seat numbers on most tickets from this era are rubber stamped after it been printed.
Any further help please ask

Matt was lucky and only paid £75. The first auction (also a fake) sold for £220 though... 2nd chance offers were made to Matt (£75 - which he took up), £85 to me, £110 and about £180.
One of teh £110 or £180 items were also purchased at a second chance offer which is why i have thought these items must be fake as why would the seller let Matt buy for just £75 when he could start a new auction and get around £200 again!!
Luckily Matt has done the leg work needed to find out that these are fake items - The buyer who paid £220 has been informed and is returning his item also and i will be hunting down the other person to inform him that his is also a fake. |

you should have just read my advice above, I clearly state that numbers are stamped on afterwards.
The only numbers which will ever have been printed on on tickets of that age are
Gate, entrance, turnstile numbers.
any number unique to a individual ticket will have been stamped afterwards. The technique used to print these did not allow changing of number "mid-run".
The fading on black ink does happen over time and should not be a "deal breaker" if all else looks good.
So other than the printed numbers did it look fairly good |

Hi Rob,
Taking onboard what you are saying the ticket had been bought, so your advice was very welcome....I had to check with other owners to ensure that they were fake...already had a refund aswell ... |

Would you guys like me to write a guide on tickets from the 20s and 30s. If a moderator makes it a sticky then other experienced people could add to it to help prevent things like this. |

Robert - if you could that would be excellent. It would become a new section on the site of which there are loads. Ive just spent a week sat around a pool doing nothing much so ive come up with loads of new ideas Thanks also to the people who have already sent me new content - it will be online sortly.

Rob, if possible are you also able to send photo's of 'real' tickets and 'fake' tickets to show the differences? |

The problem is that photos/scans can be misleading.
Fo example that ticket above look spot on from the front, maybe the orange art deco pattern could be slightly lighter but these ticket will age differently depending on storage conditions.
The best trick I've seen was a old asian man use a magnifying glass to inspect the writing on the front of a ticket. If the ticket has been created from a photocopy or scan then you should be able to see this because the letters when inspected under a magnifying glass should show signs of blur/not crisp.
Remember printing standards in those days were high off set printing stands the test of time and remains sharp.
I will add more photos to my guide as I go.
These are fakes listed here on ebay, the whiteness on the pattern behind the writing just looks wrong. unless somehow the orange has darkened over the years but the white part stayed the same. it just does'nt work like that.
