Hi All,

A friend has just shown me a bound volume of programmes from Citys' first 2nd division season.

The volume is distressed with covers almost detached, but the programmes are fine with 3 exceptions.
.

there are 61 in total, covering all home league games, plus welsh and western league issues.

Opponents include Wolves,Leeds,WHU,Port Vale,Birmingham,Leicester and South Shields, with issues for Brighton FACR and Chelse FAC.

A fantastic piece of memorabilia>

Any ideas of value please?.

Cheers,

John

It's value would best be decided at auction where it's importance could be widely distributed. It has to be worth well in excess of £100 per programme, so it's not difficult to work out where it could end up.

Buying something like that would be way beyond my means, but I'd love to get scans of them all.... to be able to read through them all would be my idea of bliss.

It's all down to whoever you feel happiest with. I've always felt that Sportingold are very good, and I buy and sell with them. You've mentioned FSA, and I've just put a few lots in with them for the first time, and the proprietor Andy was very good. Graham Budd have got some cracking lots in their sale this month. I've no preference as such, but have always been happy at Sportingold. Why don't you contact two or three of the auction houses to find out for yourself - it's the one thing they all want, real quality items.

I agree with Tommy, you will get maximum profit from splitting the bound volumne and selling individually either on Ebay or at auction. If you sell the one item at auction, you will be able to see the individual programmes sold shortly afterwards. If you do split it make sure it is done by a professional. Sadly no games v Blackburn or Plymouth for my collection. I estimate the Chelsea issue to sell for between 800 and 1200, the Leeds issue 600 to 800 with the other first team games fetching 200 plus. A great find.

Or would there be a western league issue against Argyle?

Personally due to the condition as youve described id imagine it would sell in auction for around 3700-4000 before commission.

My thoughts that there wouldnt be many city fans who would stretch to this.

Thanks All for the replies.

The owner wishes to sell, and it seems that splitting might be the best option.

Does anyone know who provides the service and the cost?.

Cheers,

John

Hi All.

Thanks to everyone who advised on the above.

Opinion seems to be divided as to whether the volume should be put into auction as it is or split and sold individually-assuming that can be done without destroying the programmes.

The games are all at home, and include:-

Chelsea FAC
Brighton FACR
Leeds
WHU
Birmingham
Wolves
South Shields
Clapton Orient
Bury
Rotherham
Sheff Weds
Bristol City

Furthere advice please.

Thanks

John

I'd definitely split and sell separate, unless the whole item was bought by a Cardiff collector they are likely to be split anyway, and after all that's all a dealer will do if they purchase at auction to generate some profit. You already have great exposure by the post on here and as a previous member says start them high on eBay and they'll make a fortune.

Please let me know if this top quality in-depth advice will allow me to have the Leeds issue for £20?

Smile
