Searching programmes sold on eBay , I nearly chocked on my tea when I saw the Mick Docherty 1980 testimonial Sunderland v QPR programme sold for over £50. This very common programme can be picked up for 99p most days.
The reason the programme fetched such a high price ? The seller wrote the words " including George Best " Now I was at this game , a sadly tiny crowd of around 4,000 and I can honestly say I can't remember George Best playing. My memory maybe a bit fussy , but if one of the most gifted , celebrated footballers of all time played in this game I would have remembered it. Which leads me to guess his name appeared on the teamsheet but he never turned up.
Of course if anyone knows for a fact he played in this game then I stand corrected. If so then take me off to the old folks home immediately

Saw him play for Hibs at Pittodrie - must have been about that time. 79 or 80.
Worth it just to say I saw him in a game even though he had a real off-day, I think.

To be honest, I can't remember a bloody thing.

No idea in this case Wullie but sadly his reputation could suggest he was named in the programme but didn't show up.
