Weymouth v Combined 11 from back in 1953. A testimonial game for Sammy McGowan (A Weymouth legend). I only have this programme as two Rovers players appeared in the game.

57 years ago and, if results had gone their way, Derby could have clinched the title at Haig Avenue that day.
Not to be, though, as Southport, lying 21st in the table, upset the odds with a 3-2 victory in front of a surprisingly low crowd of 8,076.
The 8 page programme is 75% advertising with a few lines of club notes, the lineups and a notice for the upcoming "Grand Benefit Match" against Stan Mortensen's All-Star XI. No fixture lists or league tables printed.
Signs of changing musical tastes with "Harlem Rock'n'Roll" featured at the Trocadero Cinema along with "Sea Wife" starring Richard Burton and Joan Collins. I didn't realise those two had ever played alongside one another. I wonder who won that particular "Battle Of the Egos"?

Back to 1965 and Lynn host the U.S. Armed Forces XI in a friendly.
Unsure how this team came to play Lynn in this match, it appears they were based in Germany.

This day in 1945 and a Midland Cup 1st round 1st leg tie at the County Ground.
4,552 in attendance to see a 2-1 win for the home side.
Programme is a single sheet on very thin paper. Very, very thin paper indeed.
Fixture list and, of all things, a "Playboy" advert on the reverse.......not the 'art' magazine, sadly, this Playboy is a brand of shoe that any teddy boy of the mid-50s would have been proud to wear.
That's why they call them the Cobblers, I guess.

75 years ago (1939) and a 1st Division fixture between Birmingham City and Blackpool.
The programme is a 16 page issue with plenty to read but also with lots of adverts, including the back page devoted to rail trips to the cup final between Wolves and Portsmouth.
Birmingham won 2-1 with Dodds scoring for the Seasiders.

Touch of gallows humour from Lancaster as they market a "relegation souvenir" for their final home game of the season against high-flying Burscough.

Back to 1939 and Lynn are away at Harwich & Parkeston. This was an Eastern Counties League match which Lynn lost 1-3.
The programme is a 6 page gatefold, and other than the team line ups and club notes the programme is made up of adverts of the day.

59 years ago and a 1st Division fixture between Manchester City and Blackpool.
The programme is a neat 12 page issue with plenty of reading and statistics.
City were third going into this fixture with Blackpool in 18th but the form book was turned upside down with the Seasiders winning 6-1.
Perry scored a hat-trick with the other goals coming from Mortensen (2) and Brown.

58 years ago and a trip to Truro for the players of Penzance and Newquay.
4 page ad-free programme. Lineups in the centre and some detail on the history of the competition (which was set up as a Benevolent Fund for economically distressed Cornish ex-footballers) on the reverse.

Must be awkward collecting a club who didn't print the fixture on the front cover.
What are some of the practical drawbacks?
PS - good luck over the next two matches. Hope you stay up! _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

68 years ago (1946) and a Football League North fixture between Liverpool and Blackpool.
The programme is a single sheet with team line ups on the front and fixtures and a half-time scoreboard on the reverse.
The match ended 1-1 with Buchan scoring Blackpool’s goal from the penalty spot.
