42 years ago (1972) and a Central League fixture between Bolton Wanderers reserves and Blackpool reserves.
The programme is just a single sheet printed on one side only.
A young Sam Allardyce was in the Bolton side.

Clacton town v Stowmarket Town (Eastern Counties League game)
A rather crude looking square shaped programme with no colour and typically typewriter style programme.
On the cover, Jason king makes a solid tackle.

A 2-in-1 issue from 1961 covering Shrewsbury reserves' home games with Plymouth on April 1st and Southend two days later.
4 page issue is a bit pricey at 3d given there is no reading material other than the lineups and fixture lists/lge tables.
The old Gay Meadow is long gone now - a building site for luxury apartments-to-be, though one floodlight pylon remains in place for some reason.

Only back to 2007 and Rovers took on Doncaster Rovers at the Millenium Stadium in the micky mouse Cup Final. Sadly Donny won 3-2 but what a day we had.

Easter Monday 80 years ago (1934) and a 2nd Division fixture between Southampton and Blackpool.
The programme is 12 pages with notes, league tables for Division 1, Division 2, the London Combination and the Hampshire League, a player photo of J.A.Bradford, team line ups, fixtures and half times.
The fixture list combines Division 2, London Combination and the Hampshire League in one chronological list differentiating between the 3 leagues with different typefaces. Looks strange at first with 3 matches all on the same date.
Southampton won 3-2 with both Blackpool’s goals scored by Hall.

65 years ago and a long trip west for Gravesend United in what I believe to be a Southern League fixture.
1d for the single sheet programme. Small h/t scoreboard on the reverse.

A draw at Notts County back in 1990 after a win in the 1st leg at Twerton Park sent Rovers through to Wembley for the 1st time in our history.

Back to 1934 and Lynn travel to The Nest to play Gorleston in the Final of the Norfolk Senior Cup. Lynn won the tie in front of 7300 spectators.
Programme is mainly about the two teams in the final, pen pics, route to final. Previous winners of the NSC also noted

68 years ago (1946) and a friendly between Newcastle United and Blackpool played at Workington’s Borough Park ground.
The match was in aid of the Cumberland FA Benevolent Fund and was one of a number of similar matches played by various clubs in the late 40s early 50s.
The programme is just 4 pages and is blank on the reverse.
If anyone knows the score of this fixture please drop me a PM.

Somewhere in Wales.
Mind-blowing programme - the hobby's equivalent of a Giles, Giles & Fripp album, perhaps. 19 pages of detailed statistical analysis and one page of club notes.
The club referred to in three varying forms on the front cover alone.
Wait till you start reading it.
Occasionally spectators would glance up and notice there was a match taking place

78 years ago (1936) and a Central League fixture between Newcastle United reserves and Blackpool reserves.
The programme is an unusual squarish shape comprising 12 pages.
It has a ‘busy’ cover, too busy to include either season, date or opponents.
There is a little reading, tables and fixtures and lots of adverts including one for a superb BSA Clubman on the front cover.
Newcastle were top of the Central league going into this fixture and remained there with a 1-0 victory.

34 years ago and the season finale on the Isle of Man saw Ramsey battle it out with Rushen Utd for the Cup.
Excellent 8 page programme issued. On the large side but full details of that season's competition, a look at the players involved in the Final and also some reminiscing about the equivalent matches back in 1965 and 1950. Advertising is minimal and confined to the Cup sponsors.
Rushen included veteran defender Ewan Corkish in their line-up - a one-club man who had played for them way back in the 1964 Final.
Ramsey emerged winners on the day, though I don't know the score.

Easter Monday 88 years ago (1926) and a 2nd Division fixture between Hull City and Blackpool.
The programme is a nice 12 page issue with notes, fixtures and tables and a few adverts including raincoats from the Asbestos and Rubber Co, Sunripe cigarettes and Crystal Beers from the Hull Brewery.
Blackpool won 2-1 with goals from Wellock and Fishwick.

The wording on the bowler hat ad on the front of that Hull City programme should be forwarded to their current owner _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

51 years ago and it seems strange that, in the aftermath of that season's winter and having to squeeze loads of games into a short period of time, Leyton Orient would schedule a friendly for a Friday night to add to the backlog.
But they did and it was Morton, leading the Scottish Second Division, who provided the opponents.
The 16 page programme is like the others in the O's only 1st division season - a strange, almost cobbled-together, publication. This time the lineups are on page 6 and, to see the fixture list, the reader has to turn the programme 90 degrees.
No mention of the match in subsequent Orient programmes so I assume it actually did take place...?
