December 1st 1973 40 years ago.
A postponed issue for the game between United and Ipswich, and much sought after amongst some United collectors.

60 years ago and the second of five floodlit friendly matches the Rams played against Scottish opposition that season at the Baseball Ground.
10,184 in attendance to see the visitors come out on top 3-1.
Very basic 4 page programme issued on the night. Hard to find nowadays, as are the other 4 games.
I penned a lengthy article on Derby v Scottish clubs for issue 2 of the "Derby County Memorabilia Magazine" which covers these floodlit games amongst many others. If interested in obtaining a copy, drop me a PM.

102 years ago the Potters played Queens Park Rangers in the Southern League.
With QPR leading 0-2 and a disallowed Stoke goal, the QPR keeper Shaw allegedly stuck a spectator. This prompted a few hundred of the 15,000 crowd to invade the pitch. The game was abandoned after 88 minutes, with the result allowed to stand.
As a consequence, Stoke had to erect fences at a cost of £4000!

To Anfield 58 years ago and a Central League fixture between Liverpool and Derby.
if the lineups were accurate, the lack of experience in the Rams team (only 4 players with first team appearances) may have contributed to their eventual 6-0 defeat.
Jimmy Melia at inside right for the home team.
4 page programme issued. Teams on p.2, H/T scoreboard on p.3 and fixtures/tables on rear cover.
Good value for a penny.

Across the channel to Strasbourg and their 2nd Division match against Caen.
Nice clean issue

31 years ago and a Welsh Cup 3rd round fixture between Llandrindod Wells and Bangor City.
Rather dull 8 page programme costing 10p issued. A shame. really, as the town (as I recollect) is anything but dull. Full of little curio shops and offbeat cafes.
Upon closer inspection, however, it begs the question as to why the Burnley Building Society should have a branch in Llandrindod Wells of all places. But they do - cos there's an ad for them.

77 years ago (1936) and a 2nd Division fixture between Plymouth Argyle and Blackpool.
Blackpool won promotion this season and before this game were lying third in the table with Plymouth in second place.
Blackpool won 3-1 with goals from Hill and two from Watmough.
A good 28 page programme was issued with lots of adverts but also with plenty of written content.

43 years ago and to Basingstoke for an FA Trophy tie between Thornycroft Athletic of the Hampshire League and Bedford Town.
Though they wouldn't have realised it, time was fast running out for the home club. Essentially a works team, their parent company was about to move to Hertfordshire and, though the club briefly soldiered on after the relocation, they eventually folded in 1972.
Very basic 4 page programme issued for this game. Lineups in the centre pages and club notes on the rear.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, Bedford winning the replay 1-0.

1947 and a visit to the Recreation Ground, Grays for a Corinthian League fixture which ended 2-2. Grays finished 5th, Maidenhead 8th (of 14), Walton & Hersham won the title. The Recreation Ground was yet another well appointed old fashioned type of non-league ground that was redeveloped for housing in 2010 and Grays now groundshare at Aveley.
Eight page programme printed black on white. |

Nicosia FC - not from Cyprus.
You can tell that by the fact that they're sponsored by a Prescot chippy
I just like the cover of this programme - and I enjoy browsing through it, too.
Value? Who cares? Not me.
Remember the days when we used to enjoy our collections and not obsess ourselves/waste time with how much "x" fetched at auction or who paid "y" for, to quote a very sad someone on this forum this evening "a load of crap"?
I enjoy football programmes - but sometimes (regular contributors to this thread excepted), I feel like a dinosaur for not spending hours and hours worrying about valuations and stuff that's outwith my control.
Am I alone?

24,329 at The Valley 67 years ago to see a 4-2 win for the 19th placed Rams over a Charlton side 4 places above them in the table.
This. of course, was a rematch between the two sides who had contested the Cup Final a few months earlier.
The 8 page programme is reasonably good value for money and includes a reminder to supporters that the club do set luncheons from 12 noon for 3/6d and high teas after the game for 1/6d.
All sounds very civilised.
Ads for pipe tobacco, oxo, toffee, muscle rub and Nufix hair oil included within the programme's pages.
