A feature of a lot of club’s reserve programmes throughout the 50s was that generally they were the same size and layout to those for 1st team games.
Blackpool were no exception and this is an 8 page issue (numbered 4) for the visit of Blackburn Rovers in 1952, with a pre floodlights kick off time of 6.15 pm.

111 years ago today....September 1st 1902
Won't let me do a larger upload tonight for some reason.
The first ever win by the forces of evil at Bramall lane.
The great Herbert Chapman made his debut for the Blades

34 years ago. FA Vase finalists Almondsbury Greenway visit Newent Town for a Gloucestershire Senior Lge fixture.
4 page advert-free programme issued which is happy to announce that Newent's most famous fan - DJ "Kid" Jensen - would be giving the club some free publicity soon on his Radio One show.

63 years ago and to the Potteries.
27,457 witness a 4-1 win for Stoke. Their first victory of the season.
12 page programme costing 2d. What reading there is mostly consists of the Potters moaning about their run of injuries in early-season games.
Even the advertising is rather lacklustre, though if you like ice cream and are in the market for some house furnishings, this is the programme for you...

The 3rd and final match from the curtailed 1939/40 season saw Blackpool play Wolves at Bloomfield Road.
3 wins out of 3 and Blackpool were sitting top of the 1st Division when war was declared the following day.
It can be argued that Blackpool hold the record for the longest unbroken spell at the top of the league.
A lovely 20 page programme was produced but annoyingly for such an important fixture in history it shows the date as Saturday September 1st 1939.

58 years ago (1955) and a high scoring game between Blackpool and Sunderland at Bloomfield Road.
A crowd of over 34,000 witnessed a 7-3 win for the Seasiders with Bill Perry scoring 3 and Jackie Mudie and Stan Mortensen scoring 2 apiece.
A standard 8 page programme was issued.

81 years ago and a 3-2 victory for Derby reserves at Hillsborough.
4 page programme costing 1d issued. Fixture lists on page 2, club notes on page 3 and a huge H/T scoreboard on the back cover.
"Buy a programme - don't borrow one" exhorts the programme editor. Perhaps sales were slow that season?
There's also mention of Wednesday following the example of the "big" London clubs and initiating a scheme for advance purchase of main stand tickets at 3/6d each.

Wayne Jones was capped at full International level by Wales in 1971. A ‘one-club man’, Wayne spent all of his short playing career with Bristol Rovers as a talented midfielder, scoring 28 times in 224 appearances before injury forced him to retire aged just 24. That cruel blow led Wayne to train initially as a physio and later as a coach; and he has since held the Assistant Manager position at Bristol Rovers and Notts County, Coach at Gillingham and Al-Rayyan Sports Club, plus the Physiotherapist role at Shrewsbury Town, Huddersfield Town, Hereford United, Yeovil Town and Aldershot Town. Wayne joined Newport County in September 2011 and is still there today. This programme was from his testimonial game at Eastville.

A programme for Blackpool’s 2nd home game from the 1935/6 season.
This was a 2nd Division fixture against Norwich City which Blackpool won 2-1.
A 16 page programme was produced but without a date or details of opponents on the cover.
Coincidentally, Blackpool’s current start to the season of 4 wins and 1 draw is last matched by the start in this 35/6 season.

65 years ago - 50,791 witness a 1-1 draw at Villa Park.
Reg Harrison nets the Rams' goal.
As with all Villa issues, plenty reading material. What I really like about this one is the art deco cover design.
Villa outside-left Leslie Smith has an advert on page 7 for his radio/television shop at 12 Spring Hill, Birmingham.
"Fair play and a square deal assured"
Looking this address up on Google Maps, it appears to, nowadays, be home to yet another Tesco Metro.
Progress?

A central League game between Manchester United and Sheffield United.
The red devils included Stiles and Giles, and the blades had Rooney

Another 3 digit telephone number for you, Sharrow
This day in 1949 and 29,558 struggle to stay awake through what, apparently, was a fairly dire goalless draw on this holiday Monday.
6 page gatefold issue costing 2d. I suspect a rodent has had a nibble at the corner of my copy...
