FA Youth Cup

Hi Guys,

Do any of you have collections from the FA Youth Cup? If so, how did you find fixture lists etc? I guess I thought there would be some kind of book with all the results (akin to the FA Amateur Cup book I have).

Any feedback, gratefully received, as always!

Something i've just started!

Was quite easy for me - every game was listed in the book 'Sheffield Wednesday - a complete record'

I found all the Wolves fixtures through on of the Breedon History books, from there it was a case of searching through programmes for dates, teams etc.

Thanks for your replies. I'm (obviously I guess) interested in Wimbledon youth team games.

Senior82: I'm not sure a 'complete record' style book exists for Wimbledon, but I'll continue the search. The FA website only has data for the last few seasons, unfortunately!

GreatBarrWolf: Those Breedon books look really helpful, but again, I don't think they did a Wimbledon version.

I am sure you will find a complete list of all results for the previous season in the Rothmans Annuals. They should give you a good starting point.

Morning Pete,

I remember it took me some time to find out the Blades Youth cup History. I'd collated the infomation from various sources, mainly the clubs programmes but there was still a number of gaps even then, and at times it wasn't divulged which round they were playing, and dates were difficult to obtain.

I asked our club Historian, a couple of years ago, if there was a definitive list, to which he replied 'Not as such, but I used to have one'.

He obviously listened, as the new United publication from the beginning of last season, compiled with his help, included the entire list, (now at 176 matches) which can also be seen at:

As you can see, still need to fill in a lot of gaps (oh well, gives me summat to do)

In reference to Wimbledon, I can only imagine it may be a difficult task at times, especially in regards to perhaps to some of the earlier rounds in their earlier years.

The best of luck with your search and collection. For the record Sheffield United have only had two games against Wimbledon in the competition.

1/3/95 at Wimbledon 3-3 (FAYC 5th Rd)
13/3/95 at United 2-3 (Replay)

Many thanks for taking the time to post such a comprehensive reply. I think all of the advice received is leading me to the old 'cobble the list together from various sources' routine!

Thanks for the Sheffield United vs Dons fixtures, very helpful. In the mid nineties, when our youth team was pretty strong, I notice that we produced proper looking (albeit, 4 pagers) programmes. Your away programme is similar to others I've seen - good for collecting purposes! Be good to start in the Premiership era and work backwards, I suppose....

Anyway, I'll let you know how I get on!

My brother played for wimbledon up until he was 16 before being released due to Chris Perry being signed instead of him. If you see anything with him in it his name his Phil Holt, please let me know. He played circa mid to late 80s.
He played alongside Chris Perry and Neil Ardley who both went onto bigger things.

I can't locate the fa youth cup match against Exeter circa 1989, sounds like nothing exists
