Stanley Park Oval in Blackpool hosted numerous Charity matches during the 50s, 60s and 70s normally involving a Stanley Mortensen X1 and a team of celebrities from the summer shows at Blackpool’s many theatres.
This one from the early 60s (there is no year shown) features a Stanley Mortensens International X1 including Stan himself, Tom Finney, Harry Johnston, Jock Dodds , Ron Suart, Brian London and many more well known players against an All Star Show Biz X1 featuring Karl Denver, Don Arrol and others.
I think they may have been struggling to find an All Star Showbiz line up that year as a lot of the positions shown in the 4 page programme had not been completed.

This day 48 years ago.
4 page issue for the "public practice match" between the Rams and the Blades. A single Billy Hodgson goal sufficient to give the home side a 1-0 victory.
Programme format is exactly the same as issued for Derby's reserve games.

As it's a Sunday, most likely 1963. _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

I think you are spot on with 1963 derby.
The other options were 1958 and 1968 which are a little too soon or too late. |

I have to say I'm slightly shocked, not only did you nick my programme for the day, but we were winning 1-0 at half time, Gil Reece scoring for the Blades. The full time score was 1-1. _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/sharrowblade/sets

Oops, sorry! Second time I've done that to someone in less than a week.
What's the odds against that?
Thanks for the score update, though. Records duly amended.
If you have the attendance figure, let me know. _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

Persistence pays.
16 years after first trying to get United to visit the club and following repeated requests, they finally succeeded.
This game was to commemorate the opening of their new pitch.
32 page programme, mostly advertising, for 50p.

1986 and a Lancashire Senior Cup tie between Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers.
For a few seasons the competition was sponsored by the Isle of Man Tourist Board and became known as the Lancashire Manx Cup.
A four page programme was issued which also covered the tie against Rochdale a few days later.
Unusually there were 2 different versions, one in normal black print and the other in red.

Around the mid 1960s it was normal for Blackpool and Preston to play pre season friendlies at both Bloomfield Road and Deepdale. And while the 1st teams were playing, the reserves were also playing each other at the other venue.
These games were usually described as Charity Practice Games or Public Practice Matches.
This is a single sheet for the game at Bloomfield Road in 1965.
The Blackpool side included Alan Ball and the Preston side included Howard Kendall.
Blackpool won 4-3.

24 years ago and a chance for the Ashbourne locals to see some well-knows names from the 50s, 60s and 70s in action. The likes of Ken Oxford, Gordon Guthrie, Geoff Barrowcliffe, Roy Mac, Roger Davies and Kevin Hector were amongst those listed to play.
The Ashbourne team included a Steve Lowndes who may, or may not, have been the former Newport County player. Probably not.
50p got you admission plus this 4 page programme.

Doesn't seem like 25 years ago since Wimbledon won the FA Cup.
Shanklin's manager of the time, Gerry O'Rourke, spent 10 years as a player at Plough Lane so perhaps used some influence to persuade the Cup holders to visit the Isle of Wight for the home club's Centenary match.
Very classy 20 page programme was included in the admission price of £2. Numerous photos of historical Shanklin line-ups were spread throughout the publication.

56 years ago the season started as late as the 24th of August and on the 14th Blackpool made the relatively short trip to the Netherlands to play RV Sparta in Rotterdam.
A slightly larger than A4 size single sheet was produced written entirely in Dutch.
Blackpool won the game 3-2.

71 years ago and a match billed as a Charity Match between Tangerines and Blues at Bloomfield Road.
The Tangerine team comprised Blackpool players and some guests including Stanley Matthews and Ronnie Dix of Spurs whereas the Blues side was made up almost entirely of guest players (see 2nd scan).
A standard 4 page war time programme was issued with RHO Hills advert on the back cover.

A very cheap looking single sheet programme but one of the rarest for a Blackpool match played at Bloomfield Road.
The match was a pre season game between Tangerines and Whites played in 1963.
It is less than A5 sized, poorly typed and in landscape format. There is no date or year, only the 2 teams and officials.
The sides had a mixture of Blackpool players, local players and some guests. Alan Ball played for the Tangerines and there was a Docherty on the Whites team which I think was Tommy but I can’t be certain.

48 years ago, pre-season friendly at Filbert Street.
4 page programme issued welcoming "the new boys of the first division".
A harsh welcome - Leicester won 6-1.

39 years ago and Carlisle's debut in the First Division.
31,258 witnessed a 2-0 win for the Foxes (Bill Green's opening goal coming just 106 seconds into the match - see scan below). Two further wins in the following seven days put them top of the league.
Standard 10p Chelsea issue for that season.

nice bit of tennis between you two Derby and Bispham!-seems no one else can be arsed to do anything, well i can so here is my attempt:
I am unable to show any programme for this day as the only game United played going back donkeys for this day was in Germany and they never produced a programme the bloody fools!, which is very surprising as the Germans were great programme producers always-no matter i do have something from the match-well a couple of items and they are all with the correct date.

Nice items, Leslie - do you think the ticket was unused? Reason I ask is the apparent perforation, bottom right, is uncut. _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

Yes Steve it is an unused ticket despite some fool punching out two holes, however not wishing to appear crass in any way-take a look again at the same ticket plus another unused one and one that has been clipped on entry-3 tickets, NO PROGRAMMES what were the organisers thinking!, 3 days earlier United played in Berlin and a very nice item showing Tommy Taylor on the cover with a couple of tickets-all that money that could have been taken from the fans? makes no sense whatsoever!
