No, none, got outbid on a folder of press photos by a telephone bidder who'll get a shock when he realises what he's spent his money on.

Some very nice lots there, progs, books, cards, tickets etc.

And it was very warm!

I think due to the type of photos they were (a very wide mix) the buyer must be a trader. From the description I'd be expecting more Arsenal & Spurs photos that are there, there are some good ones for sure and it's nice to see some clubs feature (no Palace though!), but the hammer price plus commission & postage means he'll really have his work cut out to get his money back.

I really wanted that lot but had to draw the line somewhere.

Sadly that is the way with internet bidding being a possibility, the headline description often implies something a bit more than reality. About a year ago I had similar experience where I bought a large batch of about 150 tickets described as from 50s to modern day. There was one 50s and one 70s then the rest modern. In fairness the auctioneer gave me a credit and let me return them. Nevertheless auctions descriptions are equivalent to estate agents now in their ability to emphasise rather more than reality. There are very rarely good surprises in auction lots these days.

Yes, the description wasn't too far out but if I'd bid any more I'd have broken my bank and even then, I may not have won them as the buyer might have been one of the Bonetti-type people. No Bonetti there though, sadly!

Going to an auction is the only way of preventing something bad happening, even then it's easy to get carried away.

You are not wrong. I bought a few items and the charge from their packing partners Jentel is ridiculous but sadly I have no other option. However I will think twice about bidding there again.

Were you there in person, Pete?

I was too - must say hello next time - will check this thread for their next auction - forgot to check until now.

Met Jack Burkett which was a highlight - put this link from my site in the other website section;

Will do.

Thought an outstanding feature of Jack's book was the very evocative photography - a marvellous snapshot of the 58-68 decade.
