A very scarce 8 page programme for a Blackpool friendly away to Weston Rhyn in 1974.

Weston Rhyn is a large village and civil parish in Shropshire and lies between the towns of Chirk in Wales and Oswestry in England.

At the time of this game they played in the Shropshire County League.

This match came about because Glyn James the Blackpool and Wales centre half, who was captain at this time, hailed from Weston Rhyn and the proceeds of the match were in aid of building a new changing pavilion.

Back to 1985 and Bristol Rovers were chosen to christen Stapleton FC's new playing field and sports pavilion.

8 page programme issued - unusual in that, whilst this cost 25p, admission to the match itself was free.

What reading there is consists of the trials and tribulations involved in bringing the project to fruition, the initial plans being drawn up some 10 years earlier.

A quick search on Google Maps street view suggests the club are still there but now renamed D.R.G.Stapleton AFC. Nice big sign outside the playing field, too and slap bang in the middle of an area of housing so they should be well supported.

Can only really be one programme from today - at least for the English anyway.

16 years ago and to Edinburgh for a well-earned testimonial match for Lothian Thistle's long-serving defender Andy Haxton.

18 years and 1,236 games on from his debut, Hearts were the visitors for his big day. A 4 page programme was issued.

In 2006, Haxton was the first player to be voted into the Lothian Thistle "Hall Of Fame"

In 1989 Rovers played in the Arundel F.C Centenery Tournament. It included Arundel, Worthing, Brighton & H.A. Bognor Regis Town, Wimbledon and Rovers. Two groups of 3 teams with the top two going forward to the semi-finals.
I could also have used this programme for yesterday as on the 29th Rovers played Brighton at 1pm and Bognor at 5pm.
On the 30th they played Worthing in the Semi-Final at either 11am or 1pm and Brighton in the Final at 3pm.

Four games in two days. The players in the prem would drop dead now at the thought of it.

210 x 296mm, 28 pages but price unknown.

Hot on the heels of 3 games in the Isle of Man Tournament, Blackpool then played 4 games in 4 days against opponents from the North East and Yorkshire.

The first of these games was against North Shields at Appleby Park which ended in a 2-2 draw.

A neat 12 page black and white programme was issued without any adverts at all.

28 years ago and Chelsea's second visit of the year to the G.E.R. ground in March.

The first was in April to commemorate the new floodlights and resulted in a 11-0 win for the Blues so the home team were out for a bit of revenge here.

4 page programme issued with a full-strength Chelsea squad listed, though readers are warned that it may actually be Chelsea reserves who eventually appear on the night. So at least they're upfront about it Smile
