Allegedly the most haunted spot in Aberdeenshire......I got this far down the path yesterday but then the birds stopped chirping, the air turned cold, the wind got up and I chickened out and turned back Smile

This path genuinely leads to nowhere - other than some haphazard stone patterns in the fields.

Or are they haphazard?

I seem to remember a wood in Nottinghamshire we went to when I was a lad where there were none of our feathered friends - allegedly something happened many years ago, they left and never came back - spooky!

When I was a kid we went to Balloch on our Sunday school trip, the Sunday school teacher had us all walking through the woods shouting for Robin Hood. Even my childish mind had reservations about the wisdom of this venture because I reasoned.
1. Robin Hood must surely be dead by now.
2. Even if he was alive, Balloch would be a strange hangout for him and his crew.
3. If it was his ghost we were calling on,I wanted no part in it.

Where is it? I go back to Aberdeen every so often and I fancy checking this out...

Forest of Birse area.

Take the car as far as is possible then keep walking west. Not advisable in winter though!
