One of my regular customers is after a badge from the Europa Cup Final.

Anyone know of any going?

There are a few Buy it Now on E-bay but they appear to be selling fast.

I was out there and there were no official badges as far as I could see. Loads of unofficial ones and the usual people making 23 variations of a badge for the final for some reason.

"That's called business"
I have my own views about certain things. Having 8 different colour variants of the same badge design does nothing for me. Especially when some like to market them as official when they are not.

Each to their own.

Indeed any kind of modern badges do nothing at all for me even if there was only one.

However it is still business

I love the colour variants. Also without the colour variants there would probably be a lot less badges made, because a seller would have to find 50 or 100 different collectors, rather than. say. 25 people who want all the colourways.

So that's £5.60 each or thereabouts, and he probably had them made for about 1.50 each. Nice profit.

Never understood badge collecting, particularly unofficial badges.

Fair enough. Since Chelsea has become successful (and trust me, I was there when we weren't!) the amount of rubbish that has been produced to commemorate trophy wins has been quite overbearing if I am honest. I have turned to trying to collect only rare, older badges (with a maker's name on it) or official badges.
As for the programme collecting comment - I have about 500 Chelsea programmes that are worth nothing - it is only those from the pre-war era that seem to fetch any money really. And the only Chelsea programmes I have really enjoyed reading were when Ken Bates wrote his column - not the current ones which just seem to be more of a health and safety manual.

But the bloke who is selling them is lying by saying they are official when they aren't!

I have 100s of Blackpool badges collected over many years but can no longer justify the expense of collecting everything when badge producers are making so many variants especially match badges.

There was a recent Cup Tie where I think there were 12 different colour variations. Absolutely crazy.

I am sure I am not alone in calling it a day when it comes to collecting the modern/current stuff. From now on I stick to collecting antique badges or perhaps the odd official modern badge depicting a special or memorable event.
